Breastfeeding after blood transfusion

Hello, I recently gave birth to a beautiful daughter however post partum was uneventful requiring a total of 10 units of blood transfusions At two different hospitals.

I started breast pumping again a few days ago in hopes of relactation. So far I was able to pump colostrum but no milk.

My question is whether there’s any concern about breastfeeding since I have had 10 bloods in me? I’m assuming they are from 10 different people. Is there a correlation? I know all bloods go through intensive testing before getting distributed to hospitals, but could there still be slight chance the bloods in me affect my breast milk which in turn will then be given to my daughter?

Thank you all mums in advance.

I lost 6.5 pints of blood due to a PPH and sorry to say my milk never came in at all. I had some colostrum but my milk just never ever came in. I tried everything. Apparently this is quite common as the body tries to repair itself after losing so much blood other by-products are lost by the body, well this is what the consultant and midwife told me.

I still did lots of skin to skin when bottle feeding etc.......

Thank you both for your encouraging posts. I’ve been in the hospital for about three weeks now. I was all in high hopes with the first intervention but seems like response is not as they might have thought. I will need to try a different drug call Rituximab.

After reading the drug, it seems successful for my diagnosis of post partum Acquired hemophilia but because it’s so rare, I can’t really find much data. I’m also scared and nervous after reading some of the side effects. I really don’t know what to do.

I haven’t seen my daughter since and she turned 8 weeks yesterday. It’s been a very difficult journey for me and my family. I miss my daughter and husband a lot.

Fortunately, the psychiatric team and a spiritual care giver are looking after me. Without them, I probably wouldn’t have made it so far.

From when I was transferred to this hospital, I’ve made progress. I’ve come a long way. The only issue now is that the traditional method of steroids alone did not help.

I’m praying.
