How long did you breastfeed your baby for?

Just as the title says really!

I plan on weaning and continuing to breastfeed until I go back to work when baby is 9 months old. Would really like to carry on a bit longer thoughSad

15 months for all three of mine and I was definitely ready to stop. In my head I wanted to give them all the same amount of time. I stopped at 15months with DS1 as I was pregnant with DS2 and did not want to be feeding both and I wanted a big enough gap so he would not associate stopping bf with ds2 arriving.

Whoopsmahoot · 11/06/2020 21:44

3 weeks- I was too ill with no milk - his weight plummeted until we got him on a bottle.

3 years 1 month for my first. He weaned easily with a little encouragement from me. Still feeding my second, 1-3 times per day, at just turned 2.

DD 1 year, DS 5 years.

NoParticularPattern · 11/06/2020 21:59

18 months first time and second time I’m 10 months in and no plans to stop. Will stop when baby is ready like I did last time so it’s not a battle.

GoingBackTo505 · 11/06/2020 22:04

A year. He didn't want it anymore after that.

Buckingham1988 · 11/06/2020 22:07

Ds1 18 months - I went back to work at 7 months. He chose to stop feeding.
Dt I stopped at 14 months because I was going back to work and it was exhausting feeding two.

Jenjenn · 11/06/2020 22:10

3.5 years. I went back to work 3 days a week when dc was 11 mo. At that stage dc was eating plenty solids during the day and pumping was not necessary. I just fed morning and evening. After 2 years or so I really only fed at bedtime. To be honest, I found bf great when dc was a little unsettled and picking up viruses in childcare after I went back to work. My dc used to refuse everything but bm when sick!

whitevino · 11/06/2020 22:12

4 months with my first, 9 months with second... each time because I went back to work and it just wasn't possible to take enough breaks to pump to keep supply Smile

passthemustard · 11/06/2020 22:12

DD1 - 8 weeks
DS - 4 weeks
DD2 - 18 months (CMPA)
DD3 - 12 months

I worked while breast feeding, at 9-12 months they will adapt especially if they are eating well. Top up with formula or cows milk when your not there. I just fed morning and night. Youngest is 8 now and I still miss it 😂

Raindancer411 · 11/06/2020 22:13

First one was 3.5 years (mainly night and morning feeds only in last year). He has a dairy allergy so it went on longer than I wanted.

Not sure how long I will do with my second but will play it by ear

MondeoFan · 11/06/2020 22:17

2 years and 4 years

2 years was easy to stop 4 years was very hard

weegiemum · 11/06/2020 22:19

Dd1 - 12 months
Ds - 15 months
Dd2 - 22 months

First time I just felt like stopping and we were thinking about ttc#2

Second time milk dried up when I was unexpectedly pg with dd2

Last time dd2 self weaned when she felt like it.

I feel like I did my best for all of them.

Tootletum · 11/06/2020 22:19

Too damn long. First two until 9 months and stopped as soon as I went back to work. This one I couldn't cope with leaving her and stupidly carried on, I was up at 5 to feed before work and then fed extra at night because I was so sad. She's now 2 and a half and shouts boobie all day long...

CatsOfSummer · 11/06/2020 22:20

DS: 2 years 5 months. He loved it, I could have gone longer but I was pregnant with DD so had minimal milk and it was extremely painful by then.

DD: 2 years 7 months. I’d had enough by then, she was down to bedtimes only and she used to mess about a lot and it was uncomfortable.

I loved it in the most part although I don’t really miss it - I was either pregnant/breastfeeding/both for almost 6 years so I was happy to finish.

Oly4 · 11/06/2020 22:21

Three weeks
16 months
18 months

FrugiFan · 11/06/2020 22:22

2.5 years. I returned to work when she was 10 months but just breastfed when I was there and she had a bottle when I wasn't there. By 10 months the body easily adapts to changes in supply need so I was able to feed all day on Sunday and just morning and evening on Monday with no ill effects

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/06/2020 22:22

Happily feeding a 14 month old.

Melinda76 · 11/06/2020 22:23

3 and a half years with my daughter until she self weaned , which was my aim throughout.

JustaScratch · 11/06/2020 22:25

9 months. Happy with my choice.

Megan2018 · 11/06/2020 22:26

DD is 9 months, EBF to date (no bottles/expressed either). I definitely won’t stop before she is 1 as don’t want to use formula, but after that is up to her. Somewhere between 1 and 2 I guess.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 11/06/2020 22:38

Two years then another two and one year through my last. This has been consecutive and now baby weight is finally coming off I am quite aghast at what I'm being left with 😂

CostaCosta · 11/06/2020 22:38

21 months and still going. He shows no signs of wanting to stop!

kenandbarbie · 11/06/2020 22:40

First baby 3 weeks, 2nd one year in the day and two at night, third - she's still going strong at 18 months but I'd prefer she wasn't so keen!
