Hello, am b/fing my fourth (now 8 weeks) and therefore should know it all

But am getting a little concerned about ds2. I was saying on a thread the other day that his feeds are very short - 10-15 mins max every three hours (less at night). But in the last couple of days he seems to be feeding even less - often just for five minutes - and seems to be posseting an awful lot of milk. Obviously very difficult to quantify but I would hazard a guess at about 3 tablespoonsful (ie 45ml) after each feed.

He's not sleeping as well as he was either - rather than going for a solid couple of hours he is napping for shorter periods - but still isn't interested in feeding when he wakes! Cries a lot more than he did and is only settled by holding him in the "flying" position IYWKIM! I've got some infacol to see if that helps (my other three had colic) but I'm still a little concerned about the length of his feeds and the amount he is bringing back up.

On the plus side, he is still smiley and producing wet and dirty nappies.

and at giantism spidey! Ds2 is only a little thing but so are all my dcs (none above the 50th centile). And lol at sitting down - I am having a very easy time of it though, as the dds are a lot older and I have dh at home, so I don't have to do much

Hmm, doesn't screech popsy, but does whinge and fuss, shaking his head from side to side.

Must go and pick dd1 up from scouts - but thanks all for the advice, most helpful

Hello lovely - he's never eight weeks old already! Cor!

Positioning (lying down to feed, or with him on your tummy, like in breast crawl film, maybe?) and try one-sided feeding for a bit - ie feed off the same side for several feeds in a row. Watch you don't get lumpy on the side you're not feeding from though. Searh Tiktok and one sided feeding for more info - she's posted about it lots!

xx xx

thanks hunker - not come across one-sided feeding before now and will perhaps give that a go. For now though I have elevated ds2 (put a cushion on my knee) and for the first time in two days he has calmly fed through letdown and has now been feeding for 15 mins so I am a happy cat!

I know my mum was really concerned when my brother took practically no time to feed whereas I had been much slower. She even resorted to the orld fasioned weighing before and after the feeds, just see that he had indeed taken in a decent feed. This was over 40 years ago (...as an aside, my mum should be congraoutlated for being determined to breast feed in a county where most white women were deliberating going for the more "civilised" and "modern FF)

She eventually realsied that it was indeed just that some bavbies are quicker and better at extracting milk
