Have been advised to cut gluten out of my diet - any experiences?

My BF baby has numerous sleep/wind/colic problems. I cut dairy out, not religiously but fairly comprehensively for a few weeks to no avail. I saw a cranial osteopath today who suggested I try cutting gluten out of my diet.

Has anyone found this helpful for similar problems and if so where the heck do I start? Found loads of stuff on the allergies board but mostly seems to be recipes etc - I'm looking for a basic beginners guide to gluten-free, just for a week or two initially.

Gluten is quite a big thing to cut out

How old is your baby?

Is the osteopath also a dietitian?

He's 8 weeks old. I don't think she has any nutrition/diet qualifications but she just mentioned it as something to try dropping since dairy didn't seem to make a difference. I get very bloated if I eat too much wheat so it seemed reasonable enough ... although I am about as sceptical about my diet's effects on my BM as I am about the value of cranial osteopathy ... let's hope I'm convinced about one or t'other before long or this child will drive me nuts!

I honestly wouldn't - cutting gluten out of your diet is a huge undertaking and really only recommended if you have true gluten intolerence (coeliac disease). With all due respect to the osteopath but she isn't a doctor or a dietician & I genuinely cannot see a way that cutting gluten out of your diet could have any effect whatsoever on your baby's digestive tract.

I cut both dairy and gluten out of my diet for a while with both my babies. I saw a significant improvement in their feeding, sleeping and general health so felt it was worth doing.

Whilst not something to be undertaken lightly, it is not that difficult to do really. In reality cutting out gluten really means cutting out wheat. Oats and barley also contain gluten but are probably not as prominent in your diet.

I replaced wheat with carbohydrates in the form of rice, millet, qunioa, pulses, buckwheat and potatoes.

Gluten and casein (cow's milk protein) have a very similar molecular structure and both are very hard for babies to digest.

Good luck.

Beachcomber - do you think that was due to your diet and not due to them growing or changing?
