Lactose intolerance and silent reflux help!!!

Hi :) my son is 6 weeks & 5 days, long story short I suspected he had silent reflux due to arching his back, being fussy & crying during a feed & stopped finishing his bottle... his feeds are up & down constantly! one feed he'll drink 2-3oz the next 5oz it's just all over the place! Was prescribed baby gaviscon which constipated him so stopped that, was prescribed carobel milk thickener, that seemed to sort out the bad feeds instantly, however I've been told to come off the carobel now... my health visitor suspects he may be lactose intolerant (I was as a baby if that has any relevance) so he's now been prescribed SMA lactose free formula, the back arching & crying is back during a feed & not finishing a bottle so to me his silent reflux is being ignored, what the hell do I do I'm at my wits end he's so uncomfortable again :( to me he needed the thickener! he constantly strains through the day trying to push wind out & hardly sleeps through the day, he's not very settled & content as it is due to all this!Any advice would be great, first time mum! I need it!!

I also use Infacol, as hes very colicky too and sometimes a bit of gripe if he's really struggling with wind

Really not sure why your HV says they thought it was Lactose causing the issue, that would be extremely unusual

If it is a problem with the milk, it's much more likely to be Cow's Milk Protein Allergy which affects around one in ten.

I would call and speak to the GP and discuss the possibility of CMPA Thanks

As above lactose intolerance is normally something developed by older adults and is incredibly rare in babies. CMPA is much more likely.

I would follow the magic sleep fairy on Instagram hun...she does live videos certain days of the week to help parents with there baby's sleep but she does help a lot of parents with questions like yours regarding reflux etc xxx

So sorry I never saw these replies I just decided to come and check! He's just been put on lanzoprozole (however you spell it) finally someone listened to me! He started rejecting feeds he was clearly in extreme discomfort! A few weeks ago he went to a&e as again he was refusing feeds but I was being told to swap and change his milk so I think he got fed up of it! The consultant told me to keep him on his original formula, I wasn't convinced it was lactose intolerance or cmpa after I did some research! Thanks for your replies everyone Thanks
