Poor child often ends up covered in food... I just dropped a big fat stainy tomatoey pasta swirl on her

Many times. I think of it as a rite of passage ...

PrettyCandles · 18/09/2007 14:26

I used to keep a towel over the back of my chair, and if I was eating something particularly spicey or stain-y, I would drape over him, like a huge bib for me.

Dd's first solid food was a chunk of double choc chip muffin that fell on her just as she unlatched to smile up at me in Starbucks.

oregonianabroad · 18/09/2007 14:26

all the time. recommend dark colours to hide stains, and drape child with a muslin!

TigerFeet · 18/09/2007 14:29

Oh god I did this all the time

It helps with learning to multitask imho

Just remember to wipe behind their ears before going out. Beetrooted baby is not a good look.

paolosgirl · 18/09/2007 14:29

All the time...

DS2's first solid was a big, fat, salty, greasy chip that DH had dropped down the papoose at the end of a lovely day at St Andrew's beach. Couldn't find the chip, thought he'd dropped in on the ground, and looked down a while later to see a 3 week old DS2 sucking contentedly on it

jellybelly25 · 18/09/2007 14:30

lol @ rite of passage and choc chip muffin! must remember to keep a muslin within arms reach...

paolosgirl · 18/09/2007 14:33

LOL

feetheart · 18/09/2007 14:35

LOL at 'rite of passage', very true! Have a lovely photo of DD at about 3 weeks being used as a resting place for my bacon sarnie -

StealthPolarBear · 18/09/2007 14:44

I just tend to sprinkle him with crumbs, then wonder why he has dandruff!
LOL at the choc chip muffin!

vole3 · 18/09/2007 15:02

I tend to go for things that can easily be eaten with a spoon so I'm less likely to drop things in between plate and mouth.
Gets more interesting when our siamese decides she wants some lap space too and then I have the choice of 2 targets for the splodge

MrsBadger · 18/09/2007 15:05

all the time
best tip is to wipe back of spoon really well on edge of dish before transferring to mouth.
and muslin canopy, obv
shower of crumbs fell out of dd's babygrow last night from my crusty lunchtime roll

I remember having to get dh to cut my meal up for me so I could eat it one handed

Most bizarre

Brangelina · 18/09/2007 15:20

I used to get spoonfed by DP in the early days (couldn't bfeed one handed) and he had the worst aim ever. Poor DD!

merryberry · 18/09/2007 15:30

oh yes. one night as i ate with out bf child clamped on, dp asked me if i'd forgotten the 'bibby'.

took a while for the evil pun penny to drop (no sleep). so bad, it still makes me wince.

HerculesMorseAsBigAsAnElephant · 18/09/2007 15:33

I was a little embarrassed when doing ds2's nappy at parent's house and a piece of sweetcorn fell off his navel. "oh, is he eating solids now?" mum asked. Well, no, that would be my food that he's wearing

evenhope · 18/09/2007 15:39

My DD is regularly covered in my dinner

Anna8888 · 18/09/2007 15:45

Get someone else who is at the table to cut your food up for you, and then eat it with a fork. Put your table napkin over your LO

bumperlicious · 18/09/2007 15:51

yep, i wondered if she had a freckle the other day till i realised it was marmite!

pseudonym1 · 21/09/2007 20:23

I vividly remember trying to work out how to get chilli con carne out of DS's ear...
