Weight loss from breastfeeding?

Has anyone else felt they have been loosing too much weight? I don't weight myself regularly but I lost the baby weight almost instantly, I didn't put much on whilst pregnant anyway. So by the time my body settled down I weighed less than I did before getting pregnant. I'm still breastfeeding at 22 months. I still feed on demand, my daughter is very clingy and feeds numerous times throughout the day, and also to go to sleep (we Co sleep). My friend took some pictures of me yesterday with my daughter and I was shocked at how much weight I have lost. I am 4ft11 and have always been slim but I think I am too thin now. I don't think I am eating properly either due to tiredness, stress and just not being bothered. I know I should. Has anyone else experienced terrible weightloss from feeding? My daughter is fussy with food too, often favouring milk over it. She isn't skinny by any stretch so I am wondering if she's taking a lot more than I realise from me?

I was the opposite; breastfeeding gave me a huge appetite and I ate anything I could get my hands on. I didn't put on loads of weight - maybe half a stone - but I definitely attribute it to hormones having me reach for the biscuits!

Might be worth having a GP check-up when lockdown restrictions permit?

In the meantime it sounds as if you're going to have to make a real effort to take care of yourself properly. Not eating enough will be contributing to the tiredness and stress - it's probably a vicious circle. Do you have support at home? Are you able to set aside some time to make sure you have decent meals and time to yourself?

I also lost weight and I’m barely breastfeeding anymore but still not putting on weight. I’ve always been slim and have a pretty good metabolism but DD is 16mo now and I weigh a lot less than pre-pregnancy. I also think I look too bony in places and would rather put on a bit of weight if anything. I think it’s normal and also partly because you’re running after a toddler! Worth seeing your GP though if you’re concerned.

I have this exact issue, I was 10 stone at 12 weeks pregnant and am currently 7, drs run countless bloods and can’t find anything out of the ordinary.

They just don’t think I’m eating enough to compensate for DD still being firmly attached to the boob, it could be the same in your case. I’d go get checked just to be safe though!

I would see the GP, it might be nothing or it could be some imbalance, thyroid etc.
I have been feeding for 3 years (2 hungry babies) and piling the pounds

Thank you all. I really need to eat more I think. Today for example I've had a few mouthfuls of porridge this morning, baby ate the rest and nothing since. I did force down two glasses of milk though which I wouldn't have had had I not noticed the weight loss. No support at home. Single parent and all that with the lockdown.

@LastNameChanger can I ask how call you are to be weighing 7st? The nines are horrible aren't they?

@pumpkinbump I’m 5ft 4 and once I fell under 7.7 I was classed as underweight... it’s the bones that are the worst 🙈

Being a single parents tough enough without lockdown! I hope you can get some help and time for yourself soon Flowers
