Starting bf again after expressing?

I've looked and not found previous threads on this.

DC is nearly 4 months. DC struggled to latch on and I couldn't bear watching them struggle/ getting upset/ getting hungry. So we moved to expressing.

As dc gets more awake and interactive the expressing is becoming more burdensome, and I do feel like I missed out a bit on that aspect of motherhood. I'd like to give bf another shot, but how?

I successfully fed dc a couple of times when we were both lying down in bed, but not in any other position. Now dc is twice the size, and only being able to feed them in bed would be more inconvenient than expressing is.

I've thought about a lactation consultant but I don't know how much use a Zoom appointment would be.

I've seen these nipple shields online which look like they might be useful, but would they? We've been using Mam bottles so the teat on the shields is a different shape to what dc is used to.

Just thinking about all of this is making me feel stressed. We stayed in hospital 2 days for extra support with feeding and got so much conflicting advice (my nipples are too flat, too fibrous (?!), not enough milk ducts, there's loads of milk ducts, there's nothing wrong with my nipples, I should use nipple shields, I mustn't touch nipple shields....)

Any help much appreciated.

Personally I found nipple shields so useful. My milk was very slow to come in and I couldn't get my baby to latch (my nipples are somewhat flat) on so I didn't actually start breastfeeding for a couple of weeks until I tried the nipple shields - couldn't have done it without them. We're now a few weeks in and I'm slowly phasing them out as her mouth grows and she's able to start latching on better. She's fed from everything (breast, nipple shield, bottle, cup) in her first few weeks so doesn't seem to have any nipple/bottle confusion luckily. Give them a go!

We combination fed DD due to her having jaundice and not waking for feeds so for the first couple of weeks she was on bottles of expressed milk then Slowly introduced her back to the breast and she was fine!

Just keep trying him at the breast and if he doesn't take to it use a shield x
