4 month old reducing intake

Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Despite challenges at the beginning (I failed to a breastfeed which was heartbreaking) my son had been feeding very well. He's never had the biggest appetite but was taking 5/6oz every 2/3 hours which was meaning he was getting between 30-35oz a day which I was happy with.
Literally the DAY he turned 4 months he's just really cut back. He's now only taking 3-4oz if you're lucky every 3 hours. Intake over 24hours is now only 25-28oz.
He seems fine in himself, sleeps from 7pm until 6:30am and is a happy content baby. When you first offer him the bottle he takes it and doesn't cry but once he's had his 4oz he won't take it back to finish and sometimes will cry if you persevere so we try not to push it.
Obviously the health visitor isn't coming anymore so I have no idea weight wise but he appears very healthy with little chubby legs and arms.
My husband (who is literally never stressed) thinks it's fine.
Has anyone else had this? Did it pick up again if so?
Thanks in advance

Also to add he just want to chew absolutely everything at the moment - he's not grumpy at all so I don't think he's got teeth starting to come in but may be making a difference

DS did something similar about the same age. His milk consumption peaked around 3 months and then began to decrease although still above the minimum recommended amount overall throughout the course of the day.

I could have written this!

We suspect teeth are moving to get ready which puts him off so gave calpol on the poor food days and he would be less fussy.

He's started to tak 30 oz a day again this week though so maybe it's a leap thing?

After drinking how I said for around 10 days fortunately he picked up again and even started drinking 7oz for his first 3 feeds.
My husband and I were feeling really positive and then at the end of last week he just stopped finishing bottles again.
He's very distracted during feeding. Still sleeping well but it's just such a stress. This time last week he was having 7oz at 6, 9 and 12:30. Today he had 4oz at 6am and has now literally had 2oz before pulling a face and turning his head away. If he finisheds 5oz I'm celebrating!
No idea what to do. Praying for another turn around!

I think as long as he's happy and has still as many wet nappies as he usually does then it should be fine. But if your worried about it no harm in calling the doctors and asking for some advice.

Hi OP. My DD went through this at around 3/4/5 months. Some days she had absolutely minimal amounts (I'm talking about 15oz in a day) and I was so worried.

She just picked up around 6 months and was having 4 7oz bottles a day. Once she started solids she was a great eater and she's suffered no ill-effects. She's one now and was obviously just having what she needed.

Try not to worry - if he seems happy and healthy then he's probably absolutely fine and it'll sort itself out. Smile

Thanks so much for writing back! It's especially good to hear how your daughter loves her solids @ShrimpingViolet ! I recently bought a cookbook to learn some recipes and was just thinking "I'm going to cook all this food and he won't be remotely interested" 😂

I keep just thinking that tomorrow it'll turn around and hopefully it will. Really appreciate you all xx
