Change in feeding

This is my first time posting, my little one is 14 weeks old and has been having 5oz of formula every 3 hours during the day and 4 hours at night. He is on cow and gate hungrier baby milk and has been since 6 weeks old.

Recently he has starting drinking less of his bottle but wanting more every 2 hours and sometimes he is very fussy when we try to feed him and he is also sleeping a lot less. He is very dribbly and obsessed with putting his hands in his mouth (I'm not sure if it is relevant but thought I would add it)

I'm a young first time mum and not very sure what to do, we are both very restless so any advice would be great.

TIA ☺️

Mine is similar age - teething?!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/04/2020 16:32

Putting his hands in his mouth just suggests that's he's recently learnt how to do it, combined with the dribbling, it could be a sign of teething. Can you see it feel any teeth coming through?

What was the reason he went into hungry baby milk?

bob130120 · 22/04/2020 16:35

We thought maybe teething but there's no obvious teeth. And we put him on hungry baby milk as he was feeding every hour/ hours and half but I can't remember how many oz he was having.

I would try putting him a k on first stage milk. Hungry baby milk can really bigger you their feeding, as I think you are finding out Smile

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/04/2020 16:46

Hungry milk has thickener I think, similar to follow on milk, to trick baby into thinking she’s full. Suggest you return to the previous first stage milk - she’s probably hungry but unable to finish the thickened milk.

Thank you I think we still have some of his original milk so I will give it a try ☺️

Do come back and let us know how you get on

bob130120 · 23/04/2020 11:31

@JiltedJohnsJulie

So I didn't have any first infant milk left yesterday so we powered through the night and I went to get some this morning. He's had his first bottle and still didn't finish but I know it may take a little while for him to adjust. I'm just really worried he won't be putting on enough weight if he continues to be taking less milk.

How much is he taking over 24 hours? Intake can fluctuate as they get older and go through growth spurts. As they get older they can also get more distracted plus they can start teething and they find their hands too. You could also try a faster teat if you havent already

bob130120 · 23/04/2020 11:51

Honestly I don't have a clue what he is taking over 24 hours as everyday is different, some feeds he is fussier than others and he drinks different amounts every time. He is already on a faster teat.
