BF, teeth, and bottles

Hello everyone,

I'm at a bit of a loss here and my mum suggested mumsnet for advice.

My baby girl's just over 6 months old. She is breastfed only and we've started to give her solids which she really enjoys.
Her first two teeth have come through and that wasn't a problem until very recently when she started to bite me when feeding.

I have been expressing and we've tried to give her bottles but she's not keen on them - pushing the bottle away, crying, screaming.
My partner and I have been discussing introducing our little one to bottles for when we start putting her into daycare in August for when I got back to work in September.

The problem is we have no idea how much to put in a bottle nor how often to give it to her.
I managed to give her a bottle after 4 hours without feeding but she shows signs of hunger before that - she's used to feeding every 2 to 3 hours for about 15-20 minutes.
I don't think it's fair on her to let her get in such state.

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. I'm really at a loss here.

At 6 month you could just move onto a sippy cup if that's easier?

@NoRoomInBed
We haven't tried a sippy cup yet. How different is it to a bottle? And how much do I put in the cup? Confused

This has helped me! I am in no way an expert though, hopefully someone else will be able to help a bit more too :)

Well if you get a free flow sippy cup they dont need to suck as much but theres loads of different kinds. You could even just try a plastic open cup if you're desperate enough. Just put in a little untill shes used to it. Then do about 5 ounces if she drinks it all and still wants more, make more if not then reduce it next time. I found letting baby play with empty bottles or cups helped.

@NoRoomInBed
Thanks for tips! I'll pop an empty bottle in her pen now and see how it goes Smile

UPDATE ON THE SITUATION

I've had a word with our pediatrician and he said that when it comes to quantity we want to aim for 210-240 ml (7-8 fl.oz) for the first and last bottles of the day and 120-150 ml (4-5 fl.oz) during the day.
She takes the full 150ml each time, no fussing!

@MKCH I've used the info you shared and she's taking her bottle just fine! No more tears (from her or me!! Grin)

@NoRoomInBed @MKCH Thank you both for replying Flowers I suddenly felt a lot less alone
