Do I change formula/bottles or just stick to what we have?

Third baby so you'd think I'd be a bit more clued up by now but DD seems quite unsettled. She has about 5 ounces every 3/4 hours, we try burping her and keeping her upright but she only sometimes burps and often gets hiccups. She farts alot which seems to give her stomach pains and has become a bit constipated lately, I know little babies stomachs have to get used to working and all formulas have to have the same basic ingredients but I'm wondering if a different formula or bottle will help with the wind and constipation, we currently use MAM bottles and SMA little steps formula

How old is the wee one and how long has it been happening? When you say unsettled, how distressed is she?

There's no harm in trying a different formula as some babies do seem to prefer some brands over others.

She's just over 3 weeks, when it's bad she will just scream out of no where and go stiff, kicking her legs and flapping her arms while farting ALOT.

Definitely speak to your HV/MW. You could also try a comfort formula as the proteins are broken down partially so this helps some babies with wind etc. Overall there's not a huge amount of evidence for comfort formula at a population level but anecdotally they do seem to help individual babies. It might be worth a try.

Just wanted to mention too that this age was around the time my wee one started showing signs of Cow Milk Protein Allergy. It was what they call non-IgE mediated so not classic allergy symptoms (like hives or diarrhoea). He cried constantly, had constipation, really bad wind, pulling his knees up, arching his back and silent reflux. It took ten weeks to get diagnosed as everyone kept saying it was normal but I knew his cry was not normal! We had to remove dairy formula so we were given a hydrolysed formula to use to see if symptoms relieved (they did) and then reintroduce the normal formula under Paed supervision to see if symptoms came back (they did!). You can buy the fully hydrolysed formula over the counter at the chemist but it's crazy expensive (cost us £22 for 400g of Cow & Gate Pepti Junior!). If that doesn't work you could then try an amino acid based formula. Obviously much better to do this under GP/Paed advice.

My wee one was prescribed the hydrolysed formula and stayed on it till he was about 20 months and we did gradual dairy introduction with the Paed. Baby foods all list dairy allergens so it was relatively easy to manage and there's good advice on Allergy UK. It may not be this obviously but just something to keep in mind if it doesn't resolve soon.

Good luck, I know how hard it is to manage so sending good vibes xx

I switched to HIPP with my first baby and it was so much better for her little tummy. Aptamil gave her awful wind and constipation but it all stopped a short time after switching. I've recommended it to a few other mums and most have has similar experiences with it.

Second baby is now bf but has had a few bottles of HIPP and had no reaction to it (other than a massive poo!)
