hi i've lost all my baby weight since starting bfing 10weeks ago just wondering if anyone piled it all back on when they finally stopped bfing?

On the contrary I lost more weight after stopping bf. Except the last time when I stopped so gradually my body had forgotten it had ever been pg.

belgo · 13/09/2007 19:32

I've put weight on after stopping bfing

MaeWest · 13/09/2007 19:34

I'm a stone lighter than when I got pg (I was a bit of a heifer) and that's one of my worries about stopping bf. That and DS is 14 months and it's the only way I get a cuddle these days

bobsmum · 13/09/2007 19:34

I never lost any weight while breastfeeding. I had the most insatiable appetite and just picked at all the wrong stuff constantly.

Once I stopped b/f I felt more able to do a bit more with willpower because I wasn't so hungry all the time.

I can't see why you would put weight on when you eventually stop. On the contrary I think you may lose more (if you want), because there'll be less of an excuse for stopping off in a cafe for a latte/breastfeed and enormous cake (or was that just me )

Panic not

I'm another one who lost weight when stopped bfing

Elasticwoman · 13/09/2007 19:42

Mae West - [virtual cuddle]. No need to stop cuddling when you stop bf!

macneil · 14/09/2007 15:40

Also lost weight, very quickly, when I stopped (expressing only!) breastmilk.

TigerFeet · 14/09/2007 15:43

I stayed at a fairly steady weight whilst bfing and piled on weight afterwards

Conversely I know people who lost weight after stopping

Unfortunately there are no hard and fast rules, everyone is different

Dropdeadfred · 14/09/2007 15:47

i piled weight on..apparently bf'ing can use up to 800 cals a day, so i got too used to being able to eat loads and stay slim..

DANCESwithTheMorningOff · 14/09/2007 15:50

Same as DDF, just kept eating ridiculous amounts of food (as I had when feeding) and then piled on loads of weight. Just keep an eye on how much you're eating and you should be fine.

Niecie · 14/09/2007 15:53

I'm afraid that I put weight on after b/f stopped too. I lost all the baby weight within a week of ds2 being born and b/fing seemed to maintain my pre-baby weight but as soon as I stopped I was having too many calories so the weight has edged up.

Wouldn't say I lost any after I finished feeding DS1 either although the weight didn't go up then so I am obviously not one of the lucky ones who finds the weight drops off easily. Shame.

laura032004 · 14/09/2007 15:59

I suppose it all depends when you stop bf, and how many feeds a day the baby is having at that point. I stopped feeding DS1 at 22 months when he was down to one feed a day, so probably not that many calories. However, DS2 is feeding all the time at the moment (nearly 15 months), so I'd imagine he's having a fair few calories.

Blu · 14/09/2007 16:01

I became quite skinny after giving birth due to bf...but got used to eating a lot with no consequences, and am now a lot heavier than ebfore I got pg.

oregonianabroad · 14/09/2007 16:04

sadly, yes, and then some! but lost it all with ds2, am determined not to let it happen again (weaning now).

bumperlicious · 14/09/2007 16:07

@OP!

Elasticwoman · 14/09/2007 16:07

Who's to say why any one puts on or loses weight over a period of time? Could be due to lifestyle or ageing. Look at Anne Widdecombe: never had a baby, but not exactly slim in middle age. You need fewer calories in your 40s to maintain weight, therefore it is easy to gain when your appetite stays the same. But every one is different, as has been said.

maximummummy · 14/09/2007 23:27

yep

unfortunatly i didn't adjust the hob-nobs to b/feeds allowance
