9 month old only having 2 bottles a day??

Lubilu28 · 10/04/2020 21:28

He was having 3 bottles a day but seems to of dropped his 3.30 bottle. He just shoves it away and fully refuses to drink it and cries to get down and wriggles away.

He’s never been a lover of milk and isn’t really bothered in the morning with it. He usually wakes up at 6ish but we don’t give him his bottle till 7 and even then he fusses with it 🤷‍♀️ But after pushing with it he does finish it.

He has 3 full meals a day and has just become really interested in food. At first he wasn’t too fussed but now he eats everything! I don’t know whether he finds his milk boring now he’s got the taste of food or what!
I feel as tho I can’t force him to drink more milk but I keep reading he should still be having 24oz or more!!
Anyone else’s little bubs been the same at this age? His older brother was the complete opposite he would guzzle so much milk and still eat so much food 🤷‍♀️

My DD is the same age and exactly the same! She loves her food, eats everything and anything. She'll wake up at 8, have breakfast, then about 10 she'll have a bottle and a nap, then she might have a small bottle around 3 between lunch and dinner but not everyday then she'll have a bottle before bed. We always have her water to hand, so she's still drinking with meals and whenever she is thirsty she has it available Smile I think now they're eating properly they're not hungry enough for lots of milk

Pentium85 · 10/04/2020 22:04

Two things:

At 9 months DS was having 1 bottle a day, if that.

Secondly, ignore ever guideline/recommendation etc about how much formula a baby 'should' have. They will only make you worry for no reason. If baby pushes bottle away, baby is full. Simple.

Pentium85 · 10/04/2020 22:05

Oh, and it goes without saying at if they're under 500ml of milk, top up with vitamins.

itsamadmadworld · 10/04/2020 22:10

My 9month old only has a bottle at nap time where she guzzles it straight down. If we try to give her one before she's ready to sleep she just messes about with it, maybe taking in an ounce over an hour. I've learnt that she'll have whatever she wants when she wants it so if she doesn't have much of whatever it is I'm giving her I just leave it where she can get it for when she's ready.

Hairwizard · 11/04/2020 13:14

Fs my twin boys are opposite! Though it seems they dont really want it during day and instead they are getting through 4- 5 6oz bottles during night between them!?Sad they will take prob 3 6oz bottles ea h during the day plus breky lunch and dinner.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/04/2020 18:30

Once they are 10 months they only need 400ml (13.5 floz) a day.

I'd give a multivitamin and make sure the food you offer is good quality Smile

dementedpixie · 11/04/2020 18:33

You can also make up their intake with milk in cereal, in foods and other dairy products, so it doesnt all need to be taken as a drink

Zelda93 · 11/04/2020 18:39

My 11month old has now been on one bottle for about two months. She'll only have the one at 7am then refuses any other but eats really well and drinks about 3-4 bottles of water a day .. just had a health visitor appointment and they said that was fine so long as I top up with vitamins..

Hoggleludo · 11/04/2020 18:45

Perfectly normal!!!! I wouldn't push it. As long as he's following his centile. Life is grand. He loves food. Is natural to adobos look now.

Hoggleludo · 11/04/2020 18:46

Avoid milk

Not sure what that typo is!

Hoggleludo · 11/04/2020 18:48

My eldest. (I had two very small children. They both weighed 8lbs at 9 months). Wouldn't even eat food at this age. My youngest ate anything and everything. Both the exact same weight. It's much to do with genes. We saw specialists from all over the world. They kept saying. As long as they aren't losing weight. Don't worry.

Lubilu28 · 11/04/2020 20:46

Well today he had his afternoon bottle and drained it lol maybe he’s going off it slowly 🤷‍♀️ I give his porridge in the morning made with milk and lunches are either cheese spread sandwich, pasta, avocado/tomato smash on toast, eggs etc and I try to add dairy to some of his meals if I can. I give him vitamins in the morning with his breakfast (find it so hard to remember tho 🙈)

Hoggleludo ow my they were tiny babies, both my boys were 8lb 14oz at birth! Lol my little chunk at the moment is easily tipping 23/24lbs 😂

Pentium85 yer I need to stop ready info online and just go with what he wants. He’s happy and healthy and that’s what matters.

My little one is 2 months old and my first child I'm having the same problem he wriggles and tries to push the bottle away. I'm also worried he's missing feeds due to having the dummy always worrying he goes past 3/4 hours as apparently his blood sugar levels can drop I dont find the health visitor st all helpful when I bring these things up I feel she just shunts them aside I'm currently using sma pro and everything was fine until they changed it to omega 3 I haven't had any tips or advise on which to change him to all I've been told is all formula is designed to do the same so it doesn't matter what one 🤯

Pentium85 · 13/04/2020 07:49

@Shannanw95

Highly unlikely baby is missing feeds because of a dummy, babies will let you know when they're hungry.

Sometimes babies go a bit longer between feeds some days, and then shorter the next. Or they feed less in the day, and more in the evening and night.

The main thing is that baby is following their own individual line on their graph.

Not all formulas are the same, so it may be that baby is slightly reacting to the current formula you're using. Maybe try a different one? They are all trial and error, so what works for one baby may not work for another.

Hope that helps

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/04/2020 08:29

@Shannanw95 totally agree with what Pentium days.

Formulas all have to have meet the same nutritional level but each formula company will use different ingredients to achieve this.

If your baby is reacting to SMA, and lots of babies are since the change, then I'd swap to a different brand. Not Aptimil though as it's made in the same factory.

Shannanw95 · 13/04/2020 08:30

Thank you! I don't feel as worried now I honestly dont find my hv very helpful at all

dementedpixie · 13/04/2020 08:51

SMA isn't made in the same factory as Aptamil. Aptamil and Cow and Gate have the same manufacturer which is different to SMA.

Its true that you can try any as they all have specific nutrients required by law. Hipp seems to be quite popular

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/04/2020 08:53

Sorry demented I didn't realise.

dementedpixie · 13/04/2020 09:02

SMA now seems to be owned by Nestlé
Cow and Gate and Aptamil are made by Danone

Pentium85 · 13/04/2020 09:34

Just as a little bit of info, my DS reacted horribly to SMA but aptamil worked great

Secretlifeofme · 13/04/2020 13:01

Sorry, just gate crashing the thread to ask - I have a 6 month old and we are just starting to wean her now. I'm a bit confused by the references above to porridge made wirh milk, as I thought they weren't supposed to have cows milk until 1 year? Or did I get that wrong?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/04/2020 13:10

Secret you can use full fat cow's milk in cooking form 6 months so things like porridge fingers, lasagne, custard and plain yoghurt are all fine when made with cow's milk. You just can't give full fat cow's milk as their main drink.

Where I grew up it was and still is, fairly common to give sterilised or uhh milk instead of formula.

Secretlifeofme · 13/04/2020 13:12

@JiltedJohnsJulie thank you! How did I not know that...Blush

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/04/2020 13:13

TBH, I'm not sure I did when I started weaning my first Smile

Hoggleludo · 13/04/2020 13:57

@Lubilu28 awe. I know. They were 2lbs and 3lbs at birth. Even now. My 8 yr old weighs 18kgs? They've stayed on the 0.4th centile for weight. I'm extremely happy with that. As are the drs. As for a long time she didn't even hit the 0.4th! We were way under it. We also saw a pead endocrine dr. For things like Russell silver syndrome. For my youngest. But he was a pollock. The dr. He was awful.

I've never had that chunky baby. I've had tiny tiny babies. People used to stop me to look. Even to this day I get told what 'dots' they are. Or how doll like they look.

I once went to a reborn doll show (they are these lifelike dolls. Awful awful!!) and people thought my youngest was a doll!!! And would screech if she moved. Was horrifying.

Pm me if you'd ever like a chat. I'm always about xxx
