Infant feeding

tricky to tell when ds2 (8 weeks) is hungry as he's so colicky and cry-y - a bit clueless as to usual frequency of feeds tbh

he's adorable, don't get me wrong

but boy, can he cry

colicky and v pukey - restless at nights

so, tricky to be absolutley sure that he's hungry. or just whingy. or in pain. etc etc

tend to feed him every 3 or 4 hours

at night he goes for one 5ish hour stint but thereafter only manages 2ish hours before getting whingey again

he's not starving - weighs in at over a stone already (91st centile) - should i let him go a bit longer? esp given the reflux/pukeyness?

I am just envious at 5 hoiurs! Mine is 6 weeks, becoming v cry -y and thinking maybe it is colic but still feeding every 2 -3hours at night, any tips to make him go longer (also BF) sorry for asking you for advice rather tahn giving it!!

well we have dummies, but i know not everyone likes them

also use white noise (untuned radio) if truly desperate

have tried 'tanking up' i.e. cluster feeding in the afternoon and evening but seems to make no difference here

no idea how we get the 4 or 5 hour block at the start of the night tbh, sorry!

No help but mine's 7+1 and I have the same problem. He won't take the dummy so he just gets breastfed constantly [shrug]. Sorry it's not advice but I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Ds fed every 1.5 to 2 hours until he was 10 weeks and every 3 hours during the night until he was about 5 months, so I'm dead impressed at this. I did take ds to a cranial osteopath when he had a colicky patch around 4/5 weeks and it made a huge difference. Have you thought about trying something like that?

mmelody · 13/09/2007 07:57

My Ds is 8 weeks and is also restless at night. Like you he goes for one 4-5 hour stint at the beginning of his sleep but is then every two hours and fidgety/restless inbetween. The constant grunting and wheezing drives me nuts . He tends to not bring up his wind at night so I wonder if it is that? I too am breastfeeding and will also be following this thread.. Sorry no advice.. but plenty of empathy.
