Tongue tie cut - right decision??

Have i made the right choice about a tongue
tie?!

My little girl is 28days old. She lost 10% of her birth weight and still hasn’t regained it.

For two weeks she was completely static.

Last week she was treated for jaundice, and shes now started to gain albeit slowly, I also feel like her feeding is improving (I can hear her swallowing a lot more)

The midwife last week said she thought she may have a tongue tie so today we went to a clinic.

They work on a point scoring system.
Anything less than 11 qualifies for a tongue tie snip.
My baby scored 9, so very boderline.
They said she had a slight posterior tongue tie. But she did have a good range of movement.

I decided against the procedure as it’s so close to not qualifying and it’s not fair to put her through it especially as it may not even make a difference to feeding.

If her weight still doesn’t improve we can be referred back to get it cut.

I just hope I haven’t made the wrong decision.

Given she's still not regained birthweight, because she's having to work harder to feed, I'd try it.

It's a very quick procedure and no nerve endings in the tongue, then after a little adaptation to new movement etc, feeding and weight gain should improve.

I would personally go back and get it done, the cut of is 11 and she is under that by 2 points! My nephew had it done he did cry but was soon feeding and forgot about it! Did not need to work as hard and started gaining weight faster...

Is your baby bottle or breastfed?

It's a really quick procedure. Both ds's had it done. They cried (but cried before just as they didnt like having their mouths held open), but only for a few seconds then were fine when put on for a breastfeed. One ds was 5 weeks and it didnt make much of a difference- ended up combination feeding. The other ds was done at 3 days and bf til 3 years.

Get it done, they brought DD out crying, I fed her that was it.

I had DS done within the first 10 days due to a brilliant midwife organising an appt. for us and breastfeeding instantly improved.
Just get it done!

Hello!
Obviously to not want to add any pressure to you - it is 100% your decision but just to say if you are worried about the procedure itself I had my baby's cut at 3 weeks old and he slept through the whole thing! There are no nerve endings so it is painless. There is a bit of blood but it stopped bleeding almost instantly.
For us it didn't make a difference but I was glad I tried!
Good luck with things!

To add someone who went the other way - decided not to have my DD cut and don’t regret it. Expressed and bottle fed. I just couldn’t do it when there was an alternative....but only you can decide.
