Cracked nipple- help!

My baby is 1 week old. My nipple is so cracked it looks like there is a whole in it. Probably got it when I breastfed with a poor latch the first few days. The MW says keep at it, the latch will get better and the nipple will heal but the pain is unbearable.
Also, I have a HUGE milk supply.
I tried leaving it for a day and got shooting pains in my breast- so scared Im getting mastitis.
I tried expressing but its so painful and makes my nipple bleed.
Im now using shields which helps with the pain and empties the milk but my nipple explodes every feed. It hurts less but bleeds just as much and just wont heal!

Help what do I do! My whole breast hurts tonight and Im feeling really down. Just want to stop😔

Hi lovely, have you had the baby checked for tongue tie? X

Someone recommended jelonet cut into squares and put inside your bra. Apparently designed to heal burns but works well for nipples too.

Lansinoh. Brilliant stuff. I would also recommend seeing a breastfeeding consultant.

I had issues with dd2, midwife and health visitor were useless. I saw a consultant by accident as I had so much milk I was donating to the local mill bank. When I went in to see them to get signed up she noticed the pain I was in, had a look at how dd2 was latching on and suggested some different methods and all was good (took a few days, it wasn’t immediate)

Congratulations and good luck.

Thanks so much for your advice. Im feeling so down.
He doesnt have a tongue tie and i have been smothering myself in Lansinoh cream and disinfecting my nipple with salted boiled water. Its just that it cracks every time I feed with the shield. But I cant picture doing it without, the pain is atrocious. Im now getting shooting pains in the whole boob too.

Maybe thats the solution, just feed with nothing😞The other one is fine I dont understand how Im doing this so wrong!!

I feel your pain, I had the same problem with one of my nipples when I first started breastfeeding my daughter. It was so horrible. I just fed through it and it was okay after a couple of days of torture.

Firstly you're doing nothing wrong it's bloody awful and you're doing your best. I was where you are four weeks ago and my toes curled with the pain, I found myself pulling away from DD as she went for my nipple which was not ideal.
I used mam compresses to sooth but the best thing which I resisted due to the cost was silverette nursing cups which honestly helped so much.
Once I had started to heal I could work on the latch, we had to be very specific about the angle in the beginning but we're a bit freer now a couple of weeks on. Try rugby hold so baby is approaching from a different side entirely or laid back so baby finds their own latch which usually is a better one..
Good luck and bottles remain an option x

After messaging you lovely bunch I had a shower and after trying to remove my bra with the pad my nipple had attached to it and started falling off with the braSad I nearly threw up it was awful! I called the MW in tears and someone came over really quickly.
They were lovely. Told me to stop using the nipple. Told me I had mastitis and put me on antibiotics, and Im trying to hand express until it heals.
Its a huge relief to stop using it and giving it a chance to heal. Im a bit worried about not being able to empty my boob with mastitis (it is SO full and aches) but hopefully in 2 days I can start again and everything will be fine.
Ive read horror stories about mastitis I really hope it goes away fast.
Anyway thanks for your support Im really grateful xx
