Hi all,

Due in a few weeks and have a quick question about formula... Is there much of a difference in the brands or are they much the same? and should I stock up on it or wait to see how baby tolerates it and go from there?

I wouldn't stock up as babies do tolerate them differently. Some have fish oil which didn't agree with dd

@LoisLittsLover so just get enough to cover me for a week or so and see how baby gets on? I assume the same with different bottles? (have heard they can be fussy with those too)

We got the premade starter kit to have at the beginning (dd was mainly bf at first, just 1 bottle a day) as it made it easier g no sterilising etc just to get us through the first few days and then used the premade small bottles as you can buy them in smaller quantities before needing to buy a big tub of formula

The majority have fish oil. Which ones don,t? I found the cheap basic bottles the best, and start with the cheap formula. I think the british based Kinder formula is better ethically but not as available and not as cheap. There is no evidence to say aptimal is better then cow and gate or whatever. But of course if you can BF that is the best. (But even if you do It is good to have some back up _

Ohh ill have a look at the pre-made ones. Just didn't want to go buy a load of them and then it not agree with the baby.

@june2007 oh its good to know they are viewed as one better than the other and I have seen that other brands are cheaper than Aptimal. (Not planning on BF, so just wanting to weigh up formula options without getting caught with tubs he/she wont eat)

Premade is the most exoensive, but the small bottles are good for hospital as they may not provide formula.

We use cow and gate as that’s what our maternity unit had when we started mixed feeding.
At one of our antenatal classes, the midwife said there is no difference between standard formulas and that they are basically the same thing.
We have pre made bottles as we would never use a whole tub of powder before it’s use by time. We do waste a bit of formula but only use it for one feed every few days if I can’t express enough.
We also use tommee tippie bottles, we tried advent ones, but I didn’t like them and I’m not sure she did ether.

@june2007 the cow and gate premade doesn't have fish oil

june2007 · 19/02/2020 23:39

Just checked on the Nutrica website and the premade first cow anfd gate milk does have fish oil as the ingredients are on the website. (Same makers as aptimal by the way.)
