Aptamil anti reflux or hipp organic comfort?

Baby DS has been diagnosed with silent reflux. He’s really struggling with it - infant gaviscon is working but it’s also constipating him so he ends up crying and straining and waking himself up straining.
A friend recommended anti-reflux milk and I’ve had a look but there seem to be a few. He’s currently breast fed with formula top ups and I’m wondering if I can use the gaviscon with breast feeding and then anti-reflux milk for the top ups.

Does anyone have any experience of either milk?

DS has silent reflux too and also has gaviscon. Its not making him too constipated thankfully. We bought normal hipp (not comfort) and aptamil anti reflux milk and tried him with a couple of feeds if each. He seemed to take better to the hipp so we have stuck with that for now. How old is your DS? Mine is 3 weeks and I found the week before he was diagnosed so hard. Things are a but better this week thank goodness

Poor you :( he’s 4 weeks and we ended up in hospital with him because his breathing was so fast, which I didn’t realise could be a symptom of reflux!

I’m finding it hard at the moment because he’s still so uncomfortable after feeds and writhes around, arches his back etc all the classic symptoms, as well as having wind. I have Hipp coming today hopefully so I might give that a go and see how we get on. He’s been having Aptamil formula so far and guzzles that so I was going to try Aptamil reflux but I’ve heard lots of good things about HIpp

How long did it take you to see a difference from the gaviscon and are you doing it every feed? @Ohwhocares22

Oh goodness that sounds stressful. I didnt realise fast breathing was a symptom of reflux either - interesting. Dh keeps saying he thinks his breathing is fast and I've just been dismissing it as I know newborn breathing is faster than ours. We are doing gaviscon every other feed, alternating with infacol, as we were told no more than 6 doses in 24 hours and he has 8 or 9 feeds still. We didnt see any difference immediately, I'd say it took 3 or 4 days and it's only really since he has been on it s week that he seems properly settled.
Ds struggled with aptamil reflux because it's so thick although I know that's the point.

HiPP comfort and aptamil anti reflux are v different so I’d recommend a trial of either for at least a week to see if symptoms alleviate

HiPP comfort is extensively hydrolysed - not many people realise this and other comfort milks are only partially hydrolysed so its a good option if you suspect a milk protein intolerance is contributing to reflux

Aptamil anti reflux just contains a thickening agent to keep the feed down

I would trial the HiPP tbh and if no improvement it may be worth considering cmpa

Started on Aptamil as he was on normal Aptamil for top ups. He takes it fine and seems much more content but he’s hardly pooing now :-/

He seems in pain when he passes wind still I’m trying to spend more time winding him

The thickening agent can be constipating . May be worth asking the gp if there’s anything he could take for that
