What beaker/cup should I use?

Have decided to stop breastfeeding DD and to switch to formula. She just bit me so I want to go out and get the kit asap!

DD is nearly 8 months old and has never had a bottle. She has had a bit of water from a tommee tippee cup but can't manage it very well.

Should I give her a bottle at this age or is there another type of beaker for younger babies. I have seen loads of different beakers in the shops but have no clue what type to try her on.

Advice much appreciated.

I used Avent bottles to 1 year. The fast flow teat (number 4) at that age.

For me, and a lot of my friends, it is pretty much trial and error, as not all cups suit all babies. It's taken dd (12 months) ages to get the hang of a tommee tippee cup - I just let her play with it with water in for a while each day, and all of a sudden she worked it out.

Thanks inks and roskva. Perhaps I will just try a bottle for now then as obviously need to make sure the formula actually goes in her tummy and not just all down her front.

Not that my dd has much formula (see other thread), but the Nuk bottles with the soft spout seems to me to be a really good compromise between a teat-type bottle and a trainer cup.

I used avent bottles aswell, teat 4 but i'm struggling to wean.... no tips, just watching for them!

As for tippee cups, Asda & I presume other supermarkets sell tommee tippe cups, they have two handles but the spout only has one hole, dd (nearly 8mnths)seems happier with this than one which we tried with 3 holes.
Also the one we use, the spout can be moved flat so for travelling purposes it doesn't leak & was only 99p.

I was advised not to have one with a valve for suction as this is even more effort to try & drink from when you're teaching them a new way to drink.

I give her water from the tippee cup after she's finished eating & although I have to tip it myself she loves it, when she's had enough to drink she just plays with it!

Thanks abs and polly for your replies.

Tried her with her first bottle today - an Avent one with a no 2 teat - didn't go very well really. She looked like she was taking to it at first then she lost interest and hardly had any.

She is a bit grumpy today though and she had just had lunch so might have better luck first thing tomorrow morning.
