Dummies & Breastfeeding.

DS is now 6 weeks old and EBF, we’ve held off introducing a dummy following the guidelines but now he’s reached 6 weeks we’d like to as we think he will resettle to sleep better / eventually sleep a little more - especially in the day time, I’m just worried it will affect breastfeeding.

Feeding is going well and we haven’t had any major issues so I don’t want to introduce a dummy and for it to go wrong!

What type of dummies are best? Would anyone care to share their experiences of dummy use and BF.

It does take a while for them to get used to them and they may spit out initially ...then once they like them you can't get them off them!
I was a fan because at the time NCT were recommending as part of safer sleep. I always used Avents.

DS is 9 wks and we introduced a dummy at 6 weeks. I have oversupply and he was sucking on me then spitting it out and crying about it. He's more content with a dummy. My supply hasn't been affected and he makes it very clear when he wants milk! He goes to sleep with a dummy then pushes it out or it falls out when he's asleep. HTH Smile
We use MAM dummies.

Another Mam user here (purely because we got one free with Boots Parenting club). We actually started using it around 3 weeks to stop meltdowns at nappy changes - not dissimilar to being told to let them suck a finger when having heel prick tests. We use it for nappy changes, when he's in his pram/car seat, in his cot. Hasn't affected feeding at all (we're nearly 10 weeks) - in fact we"re only just getting into feeding now (we were mostly bottle feeding expressed milk up until Christmas).

We use tommee tippee ones and looked specifically for orthodontic ones. You're supposed to wash them everyday and replace them every month - I'm meticulous about this, considering how often they go in her mouth!

We use them only for going to sleep at nap/bed time, and sometimes in the car. No issues with feeding.

Thankyou everyone for your replies, DS finally took a dummy yesterday after his first lot of jabs. He rejected the tommee tippee ones but has taken to the MAM ones so Thankyou for recommending them.
