I’ve been EBF my 5 week old.
I’ll be honest.... I’ve struggled with latching, engorgement, painful cracked nipples etc...
I’m going to the Docs Tomo to have a chat but I still find now my breasts hurt... feeding is fine but they just hurt most of the time. No hard lumps or red patches or anything... has anyone experienced the same? Like I said going to Docs tomorrow, just thought it would be nice to hear from others xx

You might be best speaking to your hv or finding a local breast feeding support group for help, a poor latch can cause lots of issues. I've had a lot of support from our local bf group and my hv is happy to come out and observe feeding to help if needed.

The first weeks can be hard! I'm ebf my 8 week old, the dry cracked nipples have improved with lansinoh cream and I used shields for a while as I was in pain from his crap latch. We worked on latching and different feeding positions which improved things. I still get engorged when he goes longer between feeds and my nipples feel tender (dh touched them earlier and I nearly punched him!). Baby is getting his tongue tie snipped tomorrow so hoping that sees more improvement after that..

Can you get to see a breastfeeding group/lactation consultant. Gp knowledge and support for breastfeeding can be very hit and miss and I've heard some terrible advice given by gps.

From what you are describing it sounds like a latch issue, and that is something that can be worked on with a lactation consultant. They will also be able to check properly for things like tongue tie and refer you to the necessary support (hvs and midwives aren't qualified to check for these).

What actually hurts? Nipples? Inside the boob? When does it hurt? On latching? In the shower? You have a milk belb?

I agree that a lactation consultant would be best to speak to. Do you have la lache league in your area.
