Does this sound like reflux?

Can babies have reflux just at night?
During the day DS (nearly two weeks old) is a good feeder, doesn’t fuss and usually feeds himself into a zonked our milk coma

The last couple of nights after 9pm I cannot put him down. He fusses at the breast and cluster feeds, which I know is normal, but he cries as soon as he’s finished feeding, goes quite red and is kicking, straining, looks like he’s in discomfort.

I’ve tried winding him and giving him back strokes which seem to calm him for a bit but the main thing that seems to soothe him is feeding so he’s literally been from one breast to the other for the last four hours.

He’s just gone down in his crib after I sat him up on me after feeding for a while - I think he’s tired himself out - but he’s already squeaking so I don’t think he will be down for long.

I just wondered if it sounds like reflux or whether it could be something I’ve eaten as I had quite a rich dinner tonight. I hate seeing him so uncomfortable and upset and being unable to do anything

My DS had silent reflux and it was mainly an issue at night (or for naps) as the discomfort was worse lying down - he also comfort fed too. A dummy can help and tilting the cot (eg by raising one end of it or putting a wedgehog or similar under the mattress).

I breastfed DS but we occasionally gave formula which made his reflux much worse, so we concluded that the reflux was caused by CMPA. When I cut out all dairy from my diet his reflux stopped.

Dd was like this and using colief drops has really helped

My dd was a delight until around 4pm and then it all went pear shaped and the silent reflux would really hit. She would breast feed constantly to try and ease the discomfort, but due to a milk allergy, this only made things worse. I would definitely look at removing dairy from your diet to see if that helps if you are bfing.
