Is anyone fed up of people commenting that BF is "disgusting"!?

I am currently 38+3 and intend to BF (did for 9 months with DD1) LO once born. I would say around 80% of friends etc who ask how I will be feeding baby once born have a look of disdain when I say I will be BF.

Funny how I never comment that I think it is "disgusting" that they FF their DC. Pisses me right off that a lot of mothers who have FF their babies can give you a look of disgust because they couldn't imagine BF but you are preaching if you dare say FF is not the best for their child!!

Rant over!!

People can be very hung up. Talking to a mum at preschool before I gave birth to ds2, she was like 'Eurgh, I wouldn't do that' Mind you she has 2 boys dressed in camo at age 1 whose daddy is in prison.
I guess we;re not the same type of person.

I never had that reaction from any of my friends, or even my elderly relatives!

The only people that I have ever had go 'yuck' are teenagers when we cover breast feeding and child birth, which I find very sad

id say get new friends, they sound very mis-informed and deluded!

i would have loved to breast feed

I think a lot of people are actually jealous and slightly embarrassed that they did not BF their DC so when you do, they have to negatively comment to make themselves feel more secure about their actions. I would just say "well done to you" if I were them.

Like the mother in Thorntons Cafe Conkertree has mentioned, I would bet my life she didn't BF that boy, if she had, she would be looking admiringly at you for BF your LO, not with a face of thunder and complaining to staff.

Woe be tide anyone who gives me a dirty look if I am BF in public!

I am surprised anyone is so ignorant to say FF is better in this day and age, particularly if they are parents themselves. I can see they might feel uncomfortable and embarrassed with the idea of you doing it in front of them though, might make them feel guilty they didn't?

Well having done both I do think BF Mummies CAN be just as funny about FF in all truth. What i don't understand is why we can't just give each other credit for making the ebst decisions for our individual circumstances (all my mates BF and I got severe grief for BF, even though ds1 reacyed dangerously to a component of my breastmilk- ds3 was fed bf for 16 months btw)

never get teh un natural disgusting bit though, wtf is that about?

Peachy · 28/08/2007 19:04

(only comment iever got bf btw was a lovely Gypsy lady from the fair who came up to me in a Cafe to say how wonderfully I was doing , still remember that 7.5 years on!)
