Breast milk storage / transportation

Hi guys! I’m graduating next week and will be taking my 9 week old baby who is exclusively breastfed. During the ceremony I will be seated away from the guests and so will be leaving him sat with his daddy and my mum for an hour or so, therefore won’t be able to feed him from the breast (also could be quite tricky in a dress and gown). So I was planning on bringing some EBM for him just incase he’s hungry during that time. The only issue is I will need to thaw it before I leave, we will be driving for about 30 mins or so and will be arriving around an hour before the ceremony. My question is - how long would the EBM be able to sit in an insulated bag, such as the Tommee Tippee ones, before needing to be discarded? Any advice would be appreciated! Smile

Could you express the day before and put it in the fridge? Stored in a cool bag with ice packs it would then be good for most of the day

Thawed milk is good in the fridge for 24 hours. You will be fine transporting the thawed milk in a cool bag where it should be fine for 6 hours.

Personally I would express the day before and use that milk. It keeps in the fridge for 6 days, then 6 hours put of the fridge.

Kellymom and drsears are always my go to sites for breastfeeding advice.

Expressing the day before actually makes a lot more sense than thawing frozen milk, I don’t know why I jumped straight to that hahah. Especially since I express multiple times a day anyway 🤦🏻‍♀️
Thanks ladies, I’ve never had to travel with EBM before so was feeling paranoid about how well cool bags work Smile

Ice packs will extend the time it can be used too
