Stopping BF-ing 16-month old

Hi -

My son is almost 16 months and I am ready(ish) to stop breastfeeding. He eats super well, but he loves breastfeeding. We cut down to twice a day (once in the morning and once feed-to-sleep) when he was about 12 months and that has been OK. I don't BF when I' away on occasion (late meeting, work trip, etc). DS doesn't take a bottle, but I don't think he needs milk, whether from a bottle or breast, for nutrition at this stage.

Has anyone been in a similar position? Advice and thoughts on how to stop (at least eventually) gratefully received.

You are right you can supply all his nutritional needs without milk but ensure a good calcium intake, cheese yog. At this age the easiest feed to miss is the morning one. Get up, straight to breakfast and a drink in a cup. After a few weeks of this, dump th ebedtime one. He may want a little supper, eg porridge. In the meantime ensure you are not using the breast as a bedtime setting. If you do feed, do it before washing and PJ s so he doesnt associate it withe falling asleep

My dd also loved bf but I was done with it at 15 months (partly because she just wouldn't stop biting me) I didn't actually manage to stop the last feed - night time feed to sleep, until 18.5 months. She cried for ages the first night, the second night she asked for it and grizzled when I said no, she didn't ask the next night or ever again.

My dd still often wants to be cuddled to sleep at 33 months but at least she isn't sucking the life force out of me at the same time! I just tell myself I need to enjoy the time she wants to cuddle me because time flies away so quickly.
