Introducing bottle to breast fed baby

Hello,

I’m have a 6 week old little one who is exclusively breast fed. We have started introducing a bottle for his 10pm feed which is going ok but he is struggling to settle after and is having to go on me in order to go back to sleep. He’s not interested in a dummy but we persevering to get him used to one.

I have been using tommee tippee closer to nature bottles and wondered if anyone had had the same problem and found a different bottle that solved the problem or can give me any tips of how to get him used to the bottle.

I’m going away for 3 nights in February which I no is far away but I want to start getting his feeds down one at a time between now and then so he’s used to them by then and it’s not too fast a transition for him.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Latex teat nuk bottles were all that my second would take

Seems very young, BF is still being established for both you and baby.,I would wait until at least 8-10 weeks before introducing a bottle.

@queenqueenqueen I took that advice and it was the worst advice for us. My baby is 8 months now and has never accepted a bottle. It's hard, especially with work, study and family commitments. Every baby is different of course.

MAM bottles worked for my baby. Maybe try introducing an evening bottle feed rather than last thing at night?

Just to reassure you, my daughter was initially very reluctant to take a bottle and always wanted to breastfeed afterwards for comfort. We tried to give her at least one bottle a week and found it easier when she wasn't tired or really hungry. Now (10 months) she drinks expressed milk from a bottle four days a week when I'm at work with no problems.

Im having the same problem, my baby is 10 weeks, i used to express and my partner used to be able to feed her, now she will not take the bottle. Any tips what i can do? I was hoping a night off on the 14th but cant leave her if she wont feed from the bottle

I use the same bottles and have had good use with them. What release speed have you got? Slow or medium or fast? The number on the teat should tell you, a one for slow, two for medium and three for fast. They recommend you begin on slow and switch to medium at the months. You could try different release speeds with this.

As mentioned by everyone above, some babies just won't take the bottle. I am lucky that mine did.

Hi can anyone help me? I’m trying to get my breastfed baby to take a bottle she’s 3 months. I could kick myself as she was taking a bottle from my husband who works away. When he went back to sea I kept getting mastisis and so I gave up on expressing as I felt I was making too much milk. She is now refusing to take it. I’ve tried tommee tippee, nuk, minbie. I’m so annoyed that I stopped doing it! She won’t take one from me or my sister. Husband is away. Trying with MIL tomorrow. Feeling very stressed and worrying she won’t ever take one and I can’t have a break!

Thanks for all the comments. He's now completely refusing the bottle so I think it's a case of every baby is different and I'll just have to keep trying. The Nuk bottles are my next try

I had success with Philips Avent and warming the teat with hot water before giving to her.

I’ve been having the same problem - my baby literally just took lanisoh baby bottle - £5 - straight away. I held her and rocked her while I fed and she immediately took it. Could be a fluke but going to try her again with it later. Exactly the same latch as when she’s on the boob 👍🏻

He seemed to like the Nuk latex tear bottle today. I gave it to him at his 5pm half Fred l before His bath and seemed to actually enjoy having it in his mouth like the breast. I I'll send another update and I keep going with it but may be worth a try if anyone else is having this same problem and hasn't tried this teat

Im having this problem, my H did a few sucks on a lasoureh bottle and now she wont at all.
Im looking for tips.. is it best to do it wheb shes hungry or in between feeds?

Harls123 · 10/12/2019 15:47

Lanisoh that should say

Roseharris · 10/12/2019 17:12

I read on baby centre to do it before a feed so they arnt crying for it and also try them in their bouncy chair or car seat so they are facing you and can see you but not too close to smell the milk.

This has really work for us.

Ill give that a try, its really frustrating cause she used to take a bottle, no one warned me of this or i would have carried on using the bottle a bit more
