GP referral for weight

Hi looking for advice please,

My little boy is just over 6 months old and when I got him weighed today he is 10.62kg (23lbish) and has increased to near the 99th centile from between 50th and 75th at birth.

The health visitor has told me I need to take him to the GP as she is concerned about the jump in centiles. She told me this could be a problem with his thyroid?

I have made an appointment for tomorrow but I'm now really worried. Has anyone else been through this and it all turned out fine?

Thanks

Have his head circumference and length/height measurements also jumped up in line? If so it's absolutely normal, healthy and very common. If it is only his weight that is now at a significant higher ventile then a thyroid check is standard and still not a big concern. He may just be putting weight on to grow shortly, in simple terms if it's very short term then his fat thighs of today might be to feed his healthy brain growth of tomorrow, don't worry but so follow advice to rule out a thyroid issue.

His head circumference and height are still on the 75th centile which is where they've always been. I know it's a routine check but I'm so worried that either there is something wrong with my baby or I've done something wrong!

Please stop worrying!

DD had lots of referrals from HV to GP for being ‘underweight’. GP every single time had no concerns.

Generally if height and weight are within a centile line of each other I thought that’s supposed to be fine.

Thank you, I'm trying not to worry!

Hopefully tomorrow morning the doctor will say everything is absolutely fine and he's just a bit of a chunk!
