Increasing milk supply - Domperidone?

My DS is 6 weeks and I’ve tried everything to increase my milk supply but still have to give him formula at each feed. I had a traumatic birth and he was induced early which did not help our start. I get very upset that I’m not producing enough and feel I’ve failed. It’s just not doable to continue like this as feeds take such a long time. I’m not sure how I’d cope if I gave up though

I’ve tried fenugreek, tea, pumping and power pumping. He’s been treated for tongue tie and I’m taking him to a cranial osteopath.

Ive read about domperidome and recommended by a feeding practitioner but my GP would not prescribe. Had anyone tried and did it work?

Exactly, if he's crying for more milk he wants you and the more he gets you the more you make. Stop fannying around with formula

Hi op, I have a few pointers:

Firstly, pumping does not indicate supply so don’t take that as a measure of your milk. As pp gave said, an alert baby, wet and dirty nappies and weight gain are the indicators of a well fed baby. If you want to pump, you can cover the bottle with a baby sock and be near/think of/look at photos of your baby. That can be a big help.

If you want to bring your supply up you need skin to skin as often and for as long as you can and bring the baby to the breast often. If there’s a good latch and if feeding has been going well - and it sounds like it has - then your bodies will do the rest and your supply will rise to meet the needs of the baby.

Feeding between 10pm - 4am is great as your body makes lots of prolactin overnight.

Nothing wrong with mixed feeding if that’s what you’d like to do. I’d look for a local group to gain some support in all of this.

Good luck...and skin to skin!

Could you use the money from the osteo to see a private lactation consultant instead. Osteos don't have a good quality evidence behind them and you might find a good quality LC will help you get where you want to be

It used to be used to try to increase milk supply, though not brilliantly effective. Then there was a national alert for domeperidone that it has a risk of serious cardiac side effects, and should only be used in very limited situations. Most GPs would follow that directive, and not prescribe for milk supply.
