I keep forgetting number of scoops

Im new to bottle feeding, I have wasted so much formula by forgetting number of scoops and having to throw it out.

Any bottle making tips for me?

Scoop dry formula into a clean bottle. Measure hot water into a second bottle. That way if you forget, you can start again.

What - as in how many you have put in?

I used to count out loud - helped me concentrate!

Or if that doesn't work, perhaps work out what the correct number of scoops weighs and use an accurate set of scales to weigh the whole lot out to go straight in the bottle?

Buy the set of tommee tippee pots and measure the right amount out into them at the start of the day.

I used to do this a lot. I just guessed when I forgot. Baby lived and was fine. Is now 6ft 4.

I counted out loud every single time!

TinchyBaby · 08/11/2019 14:48

I do count out loud but then start to doubt myself when I'm tired!

I've tried those measure cup things and I find the steam from bottle stops it all coming out or else I spill some trying to get it all in

Place hand on counter. Lift one finger up after each scoop. I remember this tired panicked what if I dehydrated through too much formula state 🤣

I used little Tupperware pots (the sort that are meant for 1 portion of sauce) to measure out the usual number of scoops. Then I could just take one of these and empty it into the bottle. Not sure if that's an option?

Count out loud.

Have a "no interruptions" rule when making up bottles e.g. if another person in the same room. If they still interrupt, just repeat the number you've counted LOUDLY. "one... two... Three.. that's THREE.. THREE..

Count on left hand for number of scoops. Obviously only helpful if 5 or fewer for smaller babies.

The first two helped us stop being so wasteful.

.. posted too soon.

The last hand counting tactic I save for when I'm really, really sleep deprived!

Scales! I do my bottles all at once, not water but 7 scoops in n set to the side. If I think ah feck I’ve missed/put too many in I weigh them, a scoops about 4.2gs so it’s a noticeable error on them. I also bought the Clevamama scoop thing (which is accurate with my formula again scales) n you set it to how many you need fill it n bang it to check there’s no air pockets trapped inside and then it’s got a little funnel to get it into the bottle.. our powder pots (Tommee tippee) had a weird lid where you only popped a little cap off and it was like a funnel? Maybe look for that kind of thing.

Other alternative is make it dp’s job.. that’s my second strategy Grin

Could you take a plate or bowl and put each scoop in a little pile on the plate. then when you have 6 little piles (or whatever) scrape it into the bottle. Sounds messy though. Or as pp suggested, measure the scoops into a bottle, note where they come to and then put a post it on your cupboard door. 6 scoops reaches 20ml line (or whatever). Or figure out how many tablespoons you need. Get that many out. First spoon into bottle, then into sink. Second spoon into bottle then into sink etc. Lot of trouble though
