How compatible are they? I enjoyed a glass of wine most nights with DS though he wouldn't wake for a feed for quite some time after that wine. But DD is waking a couple of hours after a glass and I'm feeding her. I'm not worried at all about it in a one off sense, but more concerned that there's a cumulative effect to her getting tiny amounts...

Actually, no, it's my friend that's 'worried' (nagging) about the cumulative effects...

Don't worry about it.

Shoot your friend.

hunkermunker · 17/08/2007 22:44

Sorry, meant ignore your friend...

notnowbernard · 17/08/2007 22:45

No, don't worry about it. Enjoy it.

MrsSpoon · 17/08/2007 22:46

Tiktok has had loads to say on this subject (try searching under Tiktok's name and "alcohol") the gist of it being 'go ahead have the wine'.

suzi2 · 17/08/2007 23:12

octoandflash · 17/08/2007 23:15

oh and did I mention that I managed to restart my bf after giving up for 5 days (((preeen)))

hunkermunker · 17/08/2007 23:29

Well done, Octo!

jemtastic · 17/08/2007 23:31

Just give them a bottle of formula instead

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 17/08/2007 23:32

I was always of the opinion that alcoholic breastmilk was better then non-alcoholic formula. And I drank more wine than you!

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 17/08/2007 23:33

jem, that was X-posts btw!

jemtastic · 17/08/2007 23:33

I doubt it

jemtastic · 17/08/2007 23:33

Formula's great

octoandflash · 17/08/2007 23:34

BF def makes you drink less - well me, anyway - which is a good thing!

My ostoepath told me that if you express milk after drinking red wine it coes out pink Is that really true or was I being completely dim believing him?

jemtastic · 17/08/2007 23:34

|BS

octoandflash · 17/08/2007 23:35

(((shuffles off to bed)))

notnowbernard · 17/08/2007 23:37

Someone's on a wind-up, then

bookthief · 17/08/2007 23:37

Alcohol leaves bm at the same rate as it leaves the blood so a couple of hours after a glass of wine you're milk is probably clear of the tiny, tiny amount of alcohol it would otherwise contain.

When ds was still feeding during the evening I used to have a glass of wine during feeding and rationalised that it wouldn't have made it to the milk yet (when I thought about it at all tbh ).

The only time I felt guilty was actually the morning after my first post-birth big night out when I fed ds about 6am with a hangover (without thinking) and he slept till 11am...bliss for me but I couldn't help thinking I'd drugged him and haven't done it again .

hunkermunker · 17/08/2007 23:38

Yes, isn't it hilarious.

What a clever namechanger.

Well done.

bookthief · 17/08/2007 23:39

octo - it's not true (cos I tested it )

jemtastic · 17/08/2007 23:52

No. really. formula is great- my children would not be here without it.I have a thyroid disorder, and after successfully breastfeeding 3 children I had to stop on GP advice due to medication. May have been a bit flippant but not on a wind up

Katy44 · 18/08/2007 10:33

phew to this as well
have been having a small glass of wine before / during the last night feed (usually most of it gets left until after) and then another after he's gone to bed in the last week or so as he's started sleepig through the night.

harpsichordcarrier · 18/08/2007 10:37

nothing to worry about at all.
fyi jemtastic, formula is great if you are not bf, but if you are bf then giving formula takes away some of the benefits of exlusive bf in terms of protection from allergies/food intolerances and also can interfere with the gut flora. and can affect your supply.
all depending on how young the baby is of course

orangehead · 18/08/2007 10:42

I once had a blue wicked on a night out, I then expressed when I got back and was really shocked that my milk was blue

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 18/08/2007 21:01

OMG, orangehead!, what on earth do they put in those drinks! Don't know about the wine, think I drink enough red and and have expressed enough BM in my lifetime to have noticed it going pink.
