Possible cow's milk allergy - any experience?

Does anyone have any experience of babies with CMPA?

Have given my 6 week old formula a couple of times (on the recommendation of midwives - that's a whole other thread!) and each time within minutes her face has come out in a rash, her breathing has become laboured, and then she’s done an enormous sick. Obviously I’m not keen to keep repeating this experiment!

Been to see the GP this morning and his advice was to try Aptimil, which wasn’t really what I was expecting! I’m going back next week and will take the guidelines of what he’s meant to do with me to discuss, but in the meantime, I’m wondering if that’s standard, or if (as I suspect) my GP is just crap?

Are you bf the rest of the time? It's not CMPA if you are and aren't dairy free yourself

I am breastfeeding the rest of the time, and I don't consume dairy (for ethical reasons, rather than due to an allergy/intolerance)

Sorry, that was probably a key bit of info!

"It's not CMPA if you are and aren't dairy free yourself"
Wrong. Breast milk contains very little cow's milk protein compared to cow's milk formula. So if your baby is breastfed and has mild non-Ige CMPA, it is possible for the symptoms to go unnoticed. I breastfed my DS and ate dairy, and it was only when we started giving him some formula (when he started nursery) that the symptoms became obvious. When we realised, I went dairy-free myself and it made a big difference to all the less obvious symptoms. We'd had no idea it was CMPA.

OP, there is an excellent FB group called "Breastfeeding with CMPA". Also see dilanandme.com/2019/05/19/survival-guide-cmpa/ and www.allergyuk.org/information-and-advice/conditions-and-symptoms/469-cows-milk-allergy

If you're already dairy free that's half the battle! The hard bit is going to be persuading your GP to refer you to a dietician and prescribe hypoallergenic formula. You can buy it yourself but it's expensive.
I suggest that you print off the Nice guidelines and take them with you - armed with those you might have better luck.
