Lactose Intolerance but baby won't feed on Lactose Free milk

My GP has told me today that they suspect my 7 week old DD has Lactose Intolerance so we've swapped to LF formula but she won't take it. Any ideas on what to do to get her to take it?

Mix half with her old formula and half with the new, over the next few days add more of the new until she's taking all new.

Thank you. We're trying that now :)

my friend had a similar issue and found adding a drop of vanilla essence to the milk solved the problem. No idea if it is actually advised for babies so little though I'm afraid

It's unlikely to be lactose rather cow's milk protein allergy,

Go and see another GP who actually has a clue!

All milks pretty much contain lactose and all babies have the enzymes to digest it.

Well the GP said it was likely to be something in the milk and to talk to our HV about what to swap to and they advised us to try Lactose Free first for a couple of weeks and then if theres no improvement we'd probably end up with prescription formula.

I had to feed ds the prescription formula which tastes awful, I put vanilla essence and 1 teaspoon of sugar in every 60ml ( he was only getting two bottles a day as mainly breast feeding) I cut the sugar down very quickly but always needed the vanilla essence

Why on earth is the GP handing it over to the Health Visitor?

What symptoms is baby having?

FWIW, friends twins had terrible reflux until they were put onto neocate (CMP free, still contains lactose) and now they are off ranitidine etc and thriving! Their reflux is more or less completely cleared up although they still need thickener in the milk

DS is lactose intolerant and he soon realised that he wasn't going to get anything else so he just ended up drinking it. We started at 1oz then 1oz an hour later then slowly spread them out ily them up. It was all trial and error as GP and HV was useless

I have no idea why she passed us over to the HV tbh.

She has incredibly bad gas, terrible diahhorea lasting almost 3 weeks, bloating after feeds, fussiness after feeds, cough for 3 weeks, cold for 3 weeks, dry skin and she had excessive weight loss for the first 2 weeks of life. I told the HV and she didn't think DD has an allergy but the GP said she doesn't have a virus because we sent off a sample to get tested.
