Domperidone boost milk supply?

Tabitha20 · 12/10/2019 04:00

I have a 4 month old baby , she is mostly breastfed with the exception of a bottle in the evening. She has a steady weight gain and is only in the 2nd percentile. Due to a tongue tie and poor midwife/ health visitor support my supply has never been abundant. As she grows, I’ve found it hard to keep up with her needs. I have tried all the usual methods, pumping, baby moon, fenugreek etc. They have helped but not enough. Last week, my doctor prescribed domperidone. My question is, does it work and what dose did you take?

Hi @Tabitha20,

We're moving your thread over to our Infant Feeding topic where you'll hopefully get some advice and support. Flowers

The best thing to do to boost supply is keep baby on breast whenever she shows any sign of hunger.
Supply won't increase if milk is not removed from the breast.

Has tongue tie been dealt with?

Has she always been on 2nd centile line?

What makes you think you don't have enough milk?

Hi

Thanks for your quick response!

Yes we had the tongue tie snipped at 3 weeks but it had taken a while for her to relearn. I only stopped getting pain about a month ago.

She was born in 25th but dropped to the second percentile during the first week due to the tongue tie that wasn’t picked up till week 2. She has tracked the second percentile ever since. She is gaining weight well though, 5-7oz a week since week 4.

She is fed on demand but will sometimes happily go 3 hours during the day without feeding and 4 hours at night so I offer the breast more often during the day, even if she doesn’t ask for it.

I worry about my supply just because she hadn’t moved back up through the percentiles,

Domperidome worked for me, although I'm afraid I can't remember what dose it was

Yes, it works, but did the GP not prescribe a dose and dosing interval?
Best way to increase supply is to breastfeed as much as you can. Maybe drop the evening bottle and try to breastfeed instead?

If she's now following a line, she's gaining adequately.

Hi

Thanks More Cookies Please. She prescribed 1 10mg tablet 3 times a day but I’ve heard that it needs to be more? What’s a dosing interval. Yes I’ve done things like baby moons where I’ve fed and fed. It helps but not enough, I already feed on demand and offer the breast even when she doesn’t want it. I could try gradually reducing the bottle.

That’s interesting you can still get domperidone prescribed. I thought you could not anymore.

Babies are not expected to regain their birth centile. They establish their own centile, which for her is the second. Which centile is her head and length on?

inwood · 15/10/2019 19:54

I was prescribed it eight years ago.it has since been withdrawn so not sure where you would be getting it from unless otc.

Tabitha20 · 16/10/2019 01:09

Her length is 9th percentile and head is 25th xx

It sounds like she is just a little baby, rather than underfed. My son was born in the 50th, dropped to the 0.4th where he stayed until puberty. His head was 50th and his length 25th. He saw a pediatrician who said he was just small, not underfed. He always had a small appetite. Even when he was weaned he chose to eat a lot less than his peers. Maybe yours is the same?

You may just have a small baby OP. Sometimes they get all bloated at birth making them seem bigger
