Breast pads!!!

Am finding Avent breast pads a bit useless. Seem to be leaking all over the shop in all sorts of embrarassing places. Doesn't anyone make them in super with wings?

The excess packaging on the T Tippee and Lansinoh disposables is awful isn't it? Makes me feel bad using them as am usually quite "green", but they are def the best (and most discreet and effective) I have tried (and have tried loads...)
But I do think if you breastfeed you save on formula/bottles etc so I don't feel too bad.

Ceolas · 17/08/2007 22:20

Oh no, I have just bought a box of Avent...

Have washables too, but thought they would do to begin with.

Pannacotta · 17/08/2007 22:21

Avent are ok, but woudl prob save them for night and get the others for the day, they are much more discreet IMO....

pinkyminky · 17/08/2007 22:29

I'd exchange them if you can.I found the Avent ones not very absorbent, plus they sort of stick to you.

Reesie · 20/08/2007 20:34

I thought I'd let people know about my breastpads. I have loads of milk and I just couldn't find ones that were absorbant enough. I was telling my ff advocate mum about not being able to find ones that hid any leaking and bless her - the next time I saw she gave me a bag of about 20 home made ones and I must admit they are brilliant. They are basically a circle of towelling sandwiched between two layers of flanellete and sewn around with her sewing machine. They are sooooo comfortable - my mum has also has made them for my friends and we all love them. You just chuck them in the washine machine and reuse!!

So if you have anyone in in the family whos handy with the sewing machine get them to make some for you!

had to use bpads for a year with my first and found tommee tippee by far the best

MaryJB · 21/08/2007 11:52

Emma Jane do washable ones with a free laundry net. I have Emma Jane nursing bra - so they fit well. "Look at this page"

jumpyjan · 21/08/2007 11:59

I found avent ones rubbish too. Have tried nearly all of them - got some Johnsons ones at the mo they are pretty good and agree Lasinoh are the best ones.

YummyMam · 25/08/2007 16:16

As so many people seemed to recommend the Tommee Tippee breast pads, thought you might like to know that a box of 50 are half price in Tesco at the moment (at least they are in Wrexham). Time to stock up!

absandme · 25/08/2007 21:04

I started with boots own then tesco's own but they made me sore coz they just got soggy!
Boots washable ones are great, they dry really quick balanced on the radiator (even when it's summer & the heatings off!)

I strongly recommend the washable ones for comfort but make sure you use the laundry bag, it cost me £60 to get my washing machine fixed due to stray pads, I was so embaressed when the washing machine man fished them out & told me that they were the problem!!!!

Just thought i would add a link here, Breastfeedingheaven are selling a box of 100 Heavenly Disposable breastpads for 1pence.. just postage costs.. works out £3.66 total

LiegeAndLief · 02/02/2008 19:28

I am obviously a bit of a cheapskate but I liked tesco's. Although like absandme said they can get a bit soggy if you don't change them frequently. WMMC idea sounds pretty good as well.

VanillaPumpkin · 02/02/2008 19:32

Agree with Lanisoh or Tommee Tippee if you leak lots like I did. I used cloth nappies but I am afraid I used these for me certainly for the first few months.

AARGGGHH,, it is only an offer for one week only though..

carrieon · 02/02/2008 19:37

i used Johnson and Johnson coz I liked the little dimple and they were reasurringly thick but didn't show through clothes like I thought they would. Soaked through all the own brand ones I tried. Would soak through at night tho with J&J so am interested reading all your other ideas for next time incase I am a total milk machine again.

LittleMissMac · 02/02/2008 19:54

I use Avent or J&J disposables because that's what my local Boots stocks and I like the Boots points . I'm not a wearer of figure-hugging tops so I don't mind that they're a bit lumpen.

I hated the ridiculous packaging on Lansinoh, and actually found them quite fiddly - they got folded up much worse inside my bra when feeding than the thicker brands (I am too slovenly to remove pad whilst feeding). I expect this is my cackhandedness as opposed to a product design fault, though.

I once bought a box of Sainsbo's own brand. I might as well have used one sheet of single ply loo roll for all the good they did.

LittleMissMac · 02/02/2008 19:55

Oh - I also use MAM because Amazon stock them and they're handy for bumping up a shopping basket to get free delivery . They're not too bad either.

Liz79 · 02/02/2008 20:19

i found boots own make ultra slim bp IDENTICAL to the tommee tippee ones £3 for 36 instead of £5 for 40. just trying motheracre washable today fro first time - seem ok

I swore by Tommee Tippee - they also looked least bulky under my clothes. Bought some washables...they were utter shite and looked like a horrible overwashed 10 year old bra....
