Please reassue me that breast milk can sustain a 7 month old baby...

...because she won't really eat any food at all (BLW). She has a few bites of this and that, but nothing to fill her.
She doesn't seem hungry and is chubby and happy, with lots of wet nappies, but even so I am a little worried.

Fine,fine,fine,fine.
Loads of calories in it,lovely and creamy, tonnes more than in some watery old carrot puree or bloody rice cake.

Relaaaaaax

foxcub · 10/08/2007 22:48

Relax and make the most of it.

She's obviously not ready yet and you'll know when she is.

Pannacotta · 10/08/2007 22:48

Agree with moondog, dont worry - its good stuff breast milk

hunkermunker · 10/08/2007 22:49

Yep, all fine. Lots of babies (mine included) don't eat anything much till they're closer to ten months or so.

cazee · 10/08/2007 22:52

Thanks everyone .
The beauty of mumsnet, one minute you are in a right old state, next minute all is well!

My ds is nearly 9 months. He had a bug last week and refused all solid food, but drank gallons of milk instead, and is now right as rain.

She'll be fine on just milk for a bit longer yet, I'm sure.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/08/2007 22:59

Will sustain her for at least another 5 months too.

As others said, relax, chill out, and just give it a break for a few weeks. Leave food 'lying around' where she can stumble across it......it worked for my ds...

cazee · 10/08/2007 23:02

Part of the problem is that I still suckle her to sleep for her day naps, so she is not hungry when she wakes, so I don't really know when to give her "lunch", you think I would have some sort of routine by 7 months! She does enjoy eating for fun, but very little goes in.
Bf experts, is it a better plan to seperate feeding and sleeping now she is 7 months, or does it not really matter?

God,don't worry about it.Go with the flow.
With second baby,we lived in very isoalted part of Turkey and ds mostly breastfed for 10 mths with occasional bowl of plain youghurt and pitta style bread dipped in stew and sucked as and when we ate.

hunkermunker · 10/08/2007 23:38

Cazee, go with the flow. If it works for you and your baby, keep doing it. If it stops working, start thinking about ways to make it work again.

I still feed DS2 to sleep some nights - he's 18mo. Other nights, like tonight, DH puts him to bed (I was out). I have a very "meh" attitude to it all. I think this is best, because if you get uptight about things you can't change, those things will still be the same and you will just be tense. Relax and suddenly it all seems easier again.

You sound reassured though - am pleased - you shouldn't be fretting. She's still very little

moondog · 10/08/2007 23:39

'meh'
Is that like a sheep bleating then?

moondog · 10/08/2007 23:39

Or more nonchalent shrugging shoulderr thing going on?
Am intrigued....

hunkermunker · 10/08/2007 23:59

It's like "nyah" - v nonchalant and involving shrugging and a "que sera sera" attitude to it all. It goes along with my famous "babies are funny buggers" line

Bubble99 · 11/08/2007 00:04

What's this? What's this? What's this?

We'll have no 'meh' ing on this site.

As you were......

hunkermunker · 11/08/2007 00:05

Hello, Bubble.

I'm afraid your post makes me want to post...

"meh"

Bubble99 · 11/08/2007 00:07

I do like your 'Gah' though.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/08/2007 00:11

oh bubble - she's been "meh"ing and "Gah"ing all over the shop this afternoon.

hunkermunker · 11/08/2007 00:14

I am subtly trying to get children to take fish oil.

O

meh

gah

moondog · 11/08/2007 08:54

Buy the citrusor vanilla Eye Q stuff and smear teaspoon of it onto toast before the butter and jam.
