Hi all.
My ds3 is now 4 weeks old and is full of wind all the time.
I thought bf babies didnt need winding as much but this is getting ridiculous! He wont settle to sleep unless in my arms, and with ds2 being only 28 months its quite frustrating I just cant get anything done.
I'm thinking about changing to formula just so that someone else can take over.
ds2 is tongue tied and we couldnt get to grips with bf [which really upset me] and ive just discovered ds3 is too, even though we've done okay with bf so far.
Could this be the reason for all the wind? And if so does anyone have advice?
I hope this makes sense, brain and fingers have yet to connect!!

My DD is almost 5 months and has been horribly windy since birth. Not getting any better either so she is sick after every feed and could fart for England . I've come to the conclusion that some babies are just like that.

How will changing to formula help? Do you have a nanny? He is still very new so you shouldn't be worrying about getting anything else done. Can your 28 month old sit with you and play/ look at books while you are feeding?

You can give infacol before bfeeding which leads to some mega-burps and farts!

gringottsgoblin · 10/08/2007 10:31

infacol is great stuff, def give that a try. i am told that what you eat affects them so try changing your diet? (never worked for me but there might be some truth to it). other than that i can only recommend using a sling, ds4 was the clingiest baby ever, then when he got to 4 months he just settled down and can now be left for quite a while happily playing with something. repeat to yourself 'it gets better', 'its not for ever' etc.

tee4two · 10/08/2007 11:04

My main problem is he just wont settle as he is so windy. As soon as i put him down he is wide awake again, and i'm seem to be constantly feeding/changing/feeding etc.
My dp is back at work, nights, so from 6 at night till 4ish next day there is only me to get things done, like dressing feeding washing ds2 not to mention doing the same for myself!!
Last night he didnt sleep from 6 till 1am and when I have to get ds2 to bed its so frustrating.
I just think that with the bottle he will settle quicker and for longer.

I wouldn't try formula as a lot of people find no difference in their baby after changing to formula from bf. If anything I'd have thought formula would make the problem worse.

tee4two · 10/08/2007 11:07

I have been thinking of a sling, just been looking on ebay in fact.
Must get my finger out and buy one.

my ds went through a windy patch at that age and the infacol was great. but I'd second the vote for a sling. you can do lots and he feels like you haven't put him down. follow gringott's mantra, it's so true!

gringottsgoblin · 10/08/2007 11:12

slings do help lots. i know how frustrating it is, i remember about 2am one night trying to put ds down and everytime i did he farted and woke himself up. is funny now but had me in tears at the time. we now cosleep i dont have the energy not to

LelsandZaffy · 10/08/2007 11:17

tee4two, my dd2 was exactly the same. didn't know we had her until 4 weeks when she developed the most awful colic/wind and reflux!

i also have dd1 who was 22months at the time so really found it difficult.
some things i found helped---
sling- nice and light at this age
dummy- was really against it, but provided her with some comfort and allowed her to nap a little longer
cut out dairy from my diet- this worked for us, but takes a good week or so to fully eliminate it from your milk

also one thing i found realllly helped, was shoving kiddly winks in pram and taking them out. distracted me and made me focus on something else! dd2 is now nearly one, and still breastfed.. still don't have much dairy myself, seems to be what agravated her...

HTH

Thanks all for the advice.
Just been on ebay and bought a sling, will try the infacol, and i will try gringott's mantra.
[which will make a change from constantly saying sshh, dont wake that baby, come away from the cot!!]

My Ds is incredibly windy. Turns out he has a dairy allergy.

I think cutting out dairy from my diest is helping but hasn't been that long since I cut it out.

trixymalixy · 11/08/2007 00:21

diet even

Could also be a latch problem because of the tongue-tie.

I found infacol quite good.
