Brushing teeth after last feed?

Not sure where to post this - but hope someone here can help.

DD is now 9 months and has got her two bottom front teeth in. I realise I should start brushing them soon and get the habit going from early on.

Problem is I am not sure when to do this. I guess for the health of the teeth it needs to be after her last bedtime feed. But she is usually sleepy and calm after this feed ready to go down into cot. If I start taking her out to the bathroom and brushing her teeth I think it will wake her up and confuse the nice bedtime routine we have (the last thing I want!).

Any advice? What do you do?

Brush 'em when you can and when you can remember. Not a big deal unless baby eating a lot of crap (which I'm sure isn't the case.)

I take the toothbrush into the bedroom in advance and let ds chew on it a bit after his bottle. Sometimes he even lets me touch it too!! (he is 10 months)

Like Seona - I started off just having the toothbrush in the bedroom with a mug of water. Then when my dds were about one I progressed to doing the last feed, and then taking them out to the bathroom to brush teeth.

Thanks for that. Me thinks I am being a rather overly idealistic (first time) mum!

(Again)

I was told by our dentist but I should brush dds teeth after her last bf but I dont.

She said that bmilk is full of sugar.

I 'brush' them in the morning and at bath time but not again after milk. She hates it and after milk she is either asleep or relaxed so theres no way I'm going to stress her out with teeth.

Daffodilly are you breastfeeding or bottlefeeding?

If you are breastfeeding, here's what kellymom says about it all

I discussed this with my dentist and he said to keep on doing what I was doing, which was brushing ds's teeth once a day (in the bath) but before his last breastfeed, and following all the other dental hygiene recommendations regarding sugar and sugary drinks etc.

After the last bf.
But she's never 'sleepy' anymore after feeding (is 11m).
She gets quite excited about it, actually!
And going to sleep after isn't a problem.

Thanks for the link to kellymom - that has some interesting info. Plus stuff on fluoride which I am wondering about too.

I think I will relax a bit about brushing as she only has water other than milk. Need to keep an eye on her raisin habit though!
