Is it possible for breastmilk to go 'off'?

My MIL is staying with us at the moment (which is another thread in itself), she's said a few things re breastfeeding which have made me a bit but am willing to eat my words if there is some truth in it.

When DD was born, my milk came in on day 3 and DD didn't really latch on until day 5. During those two days breasts were very engorged and didn't have much luck with expressing. When DD did latch on the relief was great and she has fed well ever since (7 months now). Anyway, MIL now says I shouldn't have fed her the 'old' milk that had been in breasts for 2 days while we struggled with the latch as I could have made her ill. Now am planning on continuing bf morning and evening when I go back to work when DD is 8 months but MIL is saying I should be expressing when I get home from work and throwing that milk away before feeding DD as during the day the milk will go 'off' whilst still in the breast. Surely that can't be right can it? Am I ok to happily ignore her advice or is there some truth in it?

Thank you, that's what I thought too - I shall just happily ignore then!

ask her for some links for the research she has done, Or for the source of her information.

To me it sounds like she needs medication! She has lost it.
