1.30am cluster feeding hell

I have the joy of an exclusively bf DD2 who appears to have the conviction that 1.30am to 4.30am is the IDEAL time to set up for a cluster feed marathon.

I know this is only a stage, and it will vanish hopefully soonish, but, anyone any advice in how to gently persuade her that maybe starting a cluster feeding session in the early evening would be preferable?!

Ahh sorry I don't have any advice but I was in the same boat with my DD - her preferred hours were 2am-7am. It was torture! I just gave up any idea of sleep and went downstairs to watch boxsets every night until the phase stopped, it wasn't long at all. Apparently it's good timing for getting the supply established if that helps at all Grin

Are you cosleeping OP? Best way to get some rest/sleep through it!

It will pass eventually they learn the difference between night and day. In the end I collect with DD and then once she latched on I'd doze (you never properly sleep).
Keep going OP just remember what a good job you're doing x

My son was in a next to me so I used to sort the pillows to support myself, lay him on me, he would latch on then I'd 'doze'. What I did as well was, set my alarm to vibrate mode and place it under my leg. It would vibrate under my leg every 4 minutes to stop me falling asleep properly. Then once he was asleep again, I'd place him back in the next to me and go back to sleep properly.

Most phones have a setting to have your alarm go off every 3, 4, 5 or 10 minutes for up to an hour. He would usually feed for about half an hour so every 4 minutes I was gently woken from my doze then I'd doze again. It never allowed me to fall asleep by waking me every 4 minutes as it takes a good 10 minutes for most of us to fall into a deep sleep. I probably didn't need the alarm but it was just an extra measure. You pretty much don't fall asleep properly when they're feeding on you as there's the odd hard suck that hurts a little or they move slightly so you're kept awake. It kept me sane doing it that way and made me feel secure knowing whatever happened, I would be woken throughout the feed thanks to my phone!
