Replacing one boob with formula

5 week old EBF and currently feeds every two hours, only has one boob per feed. I've got an infection in my right boob and have been told to pump and dump, and I just can't keep up with the amount of pumping. I'm also struggling to feed him from just the left boob, every other feed when he'd normally have that boob is fine but the feed where I'd usually use the other boob he ends up frustrated and crying, so I don't think he's getting enough milk from it.

I want to replace the feeds from my right boob with formula, and I just can't find much about how to go about this? Has anyone done this? How did you do it?

Are you sure about pump and dump? When I had mastitis I was told to dangle feed to clear the infection. (Lie baby down and lean over baby so boob hangs straight down!)

Just wondering who told you to pump and dump too?

Consultant in hospital said to pump and dump infected milk.

How long have you just been feeding from one side? Your supply should adjust, you shouldn't need to 'replace' the feed on the other side. Google for lots of stories of successful feeding from just one for many reasons!

I fed one sided very successfully for a number of months. I had problems with one side due to cysts and surgery so once I gave up that side, the supply sorted itself very quickly.

As pp said, what is the infection? If it’s the usual mastitis or even abscess it’s best to keep feeding from that side.
