Formula mixing

We have decided we are going to feed formula to our newborn, several factors to consider but we're happy with the choice.
After some searching, we settled on Holle Organic formula & bought in some boxes. We also purchased a Tommee Tippee Prefect Prep to mix it. We noticed after a few mixes that there were a few lumps left in it after some vigorous mixing.
We then noticed that the Holle formula says to mix at 50c, but the Tomme Tippee says it dispenses hot water at 70c, followed by cold water to get to fedding temp.
Does anyone think the water being too hot would cause problems ? We would like to use the Perfect Prep to save time & convenience, but we're currently mixing by hand & there arent any lumps.
Thanks for looking.

Water needs to be at 70 degrees to kill bacteria in the powder. Maybe the hot shot is not large enough to fully mix with the powder before adding the cold

No I don't think it's the temperature.

It took me a while to master lump free formula.

The knack seems to be to shake in a circular motion rather than up and down. This also helps reduce frothing. I used to count roughly a hundred circles. Now you do it automatically.

Are you shaking the powder in the hot water for long enough before adding cold? I never had a problem with lumps even when I was feeding small amounts to newborn. The Perfect Prep machine was definitely our best buy! Just make sure you clean it properly and regularly. Sterilising tablets are cheap. Also, make sure you have a spare filter.

Are you using the lid especially for mixing the bottles instead of putting the teat on and shaking?
I found if I used the plastic lid I ended up with less froth and no lumps; the teat let air into the bottle so lots of foam.
Is the milk itself quite a thick texture?

Also, trying rolling the bottle between your palms and then giving a good shake.

The water has to be 70 degrees so as to kill any nasties in the formula.

Oh and also if you've not got the TT prep that you can turn to sound off of, tape over the 'speaker' at the back.
The horrendous beeping is not fun at 3am.

Try mixing with a long plastic baby weaning spoon. It gets right to the bottom of the bottle for all those bits of formula that can get stuck. You can then sterilise it each time in the steriliser. Shaking isn't great as it fills the milk with air, stirring normally means a slightly less windy baby.
