Nursing Bracelets?

Whizzz · 04/08/2007 14:12

Thought I'd get a good response on this topic rather than Arts & Crafts but what do people reckon to these kind of things
nursing bracelets

I was pondering making a few (cheaper than that site !) but wondered what you all thought (thinks back to feeding my DS ...did I have time to think of bracelets )

i don't get. what does it do?

peanutbear · 04/08/2007 14:16

I think they are great and even though no longer nusring would love one to show my moms especially if they lok like that blue one go for it I'll buy one

Lizzer · 04/08/2007 14:17

WHAAAT?! I just don't get it. Feed baby when hungry on the side that is most full, was my mantra. And those on a GF style routine will have eyes glued to a clock 24/7 anyway. AND its really hard wearing wrist jewellery whilst looking after a lo, I remember taking pretty bangles off as dd would either want to eat them or get scratched by the surface.Ridiculous idea IMO.

In short, no!

Whizzz · 04/08/2007 14:17

Mum wears it (if breastfeeding - on the wrist on the side she last fed from) and you can move the charm to show the time of the last feed (the bracelet has numbers 1-12 on it)

hmmmmm

never heard of them before. Heard of the necklaces but not bracelets.

IME I never bothered with any accesories in the first few weeks but I didnt BF my children so I guess if you had a fidgety baby they could be a godsend.

Sorry I'm waffling. Dont listen to me

Whizzz · 04/08/2007 14:19

NBG - I think bracelets designed to play with whilst feeding would have to be a different design maybe

i didn't get into a routine with DS2, sometimes he fed after 3 hours sometimes it was every hour. i did however use a hair bobble to show which side i to feed from first.

Not heard of the neckace either tbh.

Nbg · 04/08/2007 14:21

Oh I see what it is now

bumperlicious · 04/08/2007 14:27

The NCT do one here which is the same idea but won't hurt your baby if they are laying on it. much cheaper and for a good cause too!

Sorry whizzz! i have seen that people make nursing necklaces to amuse babies while they are being fed. could you try your hand at one of those?

Whizzz · 04/08/2007 14:32

bumperlicious - I have made 1 nursing necklace for a MNetter - my main concern for a 'distraction' item (necklace or bracelet) would be guaranteeing safety if the baby chews on it.
Bracelets like those were just something I hadn't seen much of in the UK & are relatively easy to make / customise

Hmm, you're right. I think the bracelet is a good idea in theory but IME i have stopped wearing most jewellery since DD was born as worried I will hurt her. good luck anyway

MerlinsBeard · 04/08/2007 14:38

if the baby is nursing/feeding they can't chew on it

tbh i don't get it properly. i think it would help me more if i was formula feeding and therefore had a routine (ish) so i would know when the last feed was. i struggled with bf with ds2 (was a lurker not a poster then ) so remembering which side rather than what time was up most in my mind.

MerlinsBeard · 04/08/2007 14:40

i will happily road test one if (all being well) this one arrives in March

Whizzz · 04/08/2007 14:42

yes, thats the idea with the numbers on the bracelet - you move the charm each time you feed - breast or bottle (if you remember LOL)

oooooooooh NOW i get it!

(having a dim day sorry)

LOL Sleepycat - thats exactly what I thought too about my feeding experience (maybe its just toooooo American !)
I'm actually quite happy making my 'normal' beady stuff to be honest, I thought I'd just see what the MN thoughts were
(MNs good for things like that !)

I have one other new idea up my sleeve but not ready to try that out yet !

i used to wear my daughter's hair elastic in the early days before my supply was established and both boobs felt the same

prob not what you're after tho!

determination · 04/08/2007 21:47

that one is very nice, but prob wouldn't work for me coz i would forget if that was the side i last fed from or the side i should feed from next! Lets keep it simple.. this is were i got mine!

Whizzz · 04/08/2007 22:28

LOL - I like that one

OP posts:
lemonaid · 04/08/2007 22:31

Agree with you and sleepycat -- I could always tell which side was fuller anyway (and if they both felt the same then I reckoned it didn't much matter where DS started his feed).

nappyaddict · 11/08/2007 12:18

i know someone who used to put a safety pin on the side of her bra whih she had fed from last.
