Hi, I am new to mumsnet and dont know all of the acronyms so sorry if this is a bit long winded.

I have a 10 week old son who I am exclusively breasfeeding, the touble is I have been given conflicting advice my health visitor has told me to feed him for 10 mins on one boob then give him the other boob for a further 10 mins. I have then been told by another health visitor to only give one boob for 20 mins so he gets the hind milk.

I have been giving him one boob then after 10 mins or so he squirms and bobs on and off and kicks his little legs, I have then sometimes offerd the second boob. I am confused which one is correct and what should I do for the best.

Stop listening to HV . Let baby feed from one side until they come off themselves. If they still seem fussy or hungry offer the second side. Babies are good at "telling" you what to do - better than HVs, your mum, your MIL etc etc .

liath · 03/08/2007 14:47

Yes, that's pretty much what I do. Sometimes ds takes one side, sometimes both and feeds can be quite varied in duration, too.

Welcome to MN and congratulations on your baby boy .
