Breast feeding

First time mum here. LO 1 week old. EB.

I'm really struggling with maintaining a good latch. Baby seems to slip? So even what starts are a good latch doesn't always last. It's very frustrating for both of us. My nipples are getting sore.
It's got worse since my milks come in as my breasts are so big and hard it's proving difficult to get enough nipple in for a good latch.
I'm also struggling with back pain, I'm pretty sure this is the positions in having to feed in. Any advice would be great.

Your baby is having a hard time staying on the breast probably because you're so engorged. This is VERY common. My advise is to get in the shower, possibly a few times a day until they settle down, and use your hands to express excess milk. The warm water will help them let down. As soon as you get out, try feeding your baby. Just relax and know this difficult time WILL pass.

Can you go to a breastfeeding group? They massively helped me in the first few weeks. Taught me the flipple and different positions which helped. 2nd hand expressing first in the shower too.

I had the same situation, my baby is 6 weeks old and he's been slipping and coming off the nipple for a couple of weeks. I've been to the groups, had my infant feeding midwife out, tried everything, and what works for us is nipple shields. Might not be the best long term option but he now stays latched on for the full feed and doesn't come off any more. It also allows my nipples a chance to heal when they get sore.

Thank you. I'm hoping to go to a group tomorrow or Tuesday. But anything that might help before I'll try. Thank you

If your boobs are very full to begin with and baby can't latch try hand expressing off a little to begin with and then latch baby. He should then be able to get more nipple.
