CMPA likelihood?

I have a whingy five week old. She's very snuffly, and I THINK has some windy-type discomfort/griping pain - but obviously that's guesswork. Does it sound like it's worth cutting out dairy to see if that makes her less miserable? Or is CMPA unlikely if she's not refluxy/doesn't have any other symptoms beyond the ones described above? Would CMPA even occur to you in these circumstances - or am I likely over-Googling because I have an unsettled baby and I'd really like to find a fixable reason for it?!

What are her nappies like? My GP has just advised cutting out dairy – and being ruthlessly careful about it! – based on similar symptoms and multiple green/watery/mucusy poonami nappies a day. It's a rare day my DD doesn't go up the front, sides, back and through clothing with every poo (of which there seem to be 100s).

Nappies are normal - several a day, mustardy yellow, nothing concerning. That's why I'm a bit unsure it's worth the hassle! It's literally just snuffly congestion and general grumpiness!

And I guess possible griping pain, but I can't really tell what's discomfort and what's grizzliness.

Ime babies in the first 8 weeks or so display lots of symptoms that can be attributed to all sorts, most of which are usually just newborn baby symptoms. However, sometimes it will be more than that.

By all means cut out dairy - it can take about 6 weeks until it's fully out of both your systems. Of course if you see an improvement you won't necessarily know if it's because it was dairy or because baby has got a bit older and got over the newbornness.

My DD has cmpa and presented with vomiting, some mucus in her nappies, coughing, colds/snifflyness and lots and lots of wind - also rashes on occasion. One thing I have learnt is that sometimes babies only have one or two symptoms. I think the wind was key for us though.

It's a tough time for you so take it easy and my advice is to write everything down. It's such a blur and in a few weeks you will appreciate it.

So much this. Plus it's a hideous Venn diagram of "reflux symptoms include colic, sleeplessness, wind and CMPA-like symptoms; CMPA symptoms include reflux and colic; colic symptoms include reflux".

For us certain things have improved/disappeared but the nappies and wind are only getting worse, plus there's a bit of feeding refusal/frequent feeding so it seems worth going all Gwyneth Paltrow with my diet. Although it could all be down to her posterior tongue tie. In short, babies ¯\(ツ)/¯

Ugh. That's exactly it! We have these bouts of crabbiness and I'm just holding a squiggling baby thinking I can't really tell the difference between wind, tiredness and general bad temper. It could be all three or just one, or the combination could signify something else.

I'm giving myself the weekend to enjoy lattes and Dairy Milk then I'll decide if it's worth a try...
