Specialist teats that avoid nipple confusion

Hi,

I am currently breast feeding but I am wanting to start giving a bottle at night shortly (currently Gabriel is 5 weeks old) so that DH can stop using the excuse that he can't help at night as it's my job to breast feed (haha!). I heard the "Baby whisperer" talking about a specialist teat that means the baby has to suck in the same way as he does ont he nipple to get milk from the bottle which avoids any nipple confusion. Does anyone know mroe about this product and where I might get it from?

If your breast feeding is well established, I wouldn't worry too much about a special teat. The issue will be more about whether your ds WANTS to take a bottle rather than sufering from nipple confusion.

Are you planning on expressing the night feed or mixed feeding?

For the record, my ds was taking bottles of EBM ot aid his weight gain (and/or to give me cofnidence that he was getting enough) from about 2 weeks - using all sorts of different teats (hospital rubber ones, Avent, Maws) and never had a problem.

But every child is different!

I wonder if she means the Playtex system, Verity. We used this successfully with ds but dd wasn't having any of it and I basically just started her on soft spouts. Every baby is different - some, like prettybird's, are quite easygoing, others fuss like mad.
If you are interested in Playtex it is an American system, can be bought online from Lilliput (although I see they are rebuilding their website!) or at independent chemists. Boots and Mothercare don't stock it.
As Prettybird says, if your bf is well-established, you maybe won't need to worry too much about nipple confusion, more about persuading little Gabriel to cooperate.

The Baby Whisperer advocates the Haberman feeder. Very difficult to get hold of and not in any shops as far as I know. You may need to google it. I have found the Adiri breastbottle very good, but it is only available in the US (I bought mine second hand - though not used) www.nurser.com

Weve been giving ebm since 4 weeks. Maybe I just have a easy going baby but shes excepted the avent teats and the tomee tippee ones and easilt swiches from breats to bottle.

Give it a go first. Dont be put off the first time you try as we found dd used to roll it around in her mouth.
I got her to suck my finger to get the hang of it and then put the bottle.

DD has had EBM from birth due to sleepiness and jaundice.

Now I give her a bottle about 3 times a week, she makes faces and has a moan but will take the whole bottle.
