Does anyone know whether there is any reason why you should heat expressed milk for a baby to drink? i.e. is it safe to give a baby room temperature or cold expressed milk?

No reason to heat unless your baby has a preference - some babies are fine with it straight from the fridge

no, no reason afaik

my baby used to prefer the chill taken opff so i used to run under hot tap giving it a shake now ad then too after a while she took it straaight from the fridge

I heat the milk if its been in the fridge as dd does not take it well if its too cold. If the milk is at room temperate I give it to her without warming. I just put the bottle in a jug of boiling water briefly.

Don't shake EBM - it's quite fragile and needs to be swirlled gently. Not sure of the scientific reasons but I do recall reading this lots.

My DS takes room temperature EBM but I worry about giving him a stomach chill if it's fresh from the 'fridge (it's the old nan in me). In that case I warm it in the microwave for a few seconds, so it is room temperature only. I used to use hot water and a jug but I found I overheated it too often. I would second was Shiv says about not shaking too much.

I have to admit to using a bottle warmer! Because I didn't him a bottle myself and had to give clear instructions to MIL, I would say, 4 minutes in the warmer and know that it would be OK. It was also good for defrosting frozen EBM.
