Extended breastfeeding and naps

Hi, I'm new!

I'm breastfeeding my 20 month old (not sure if that counts as extended). He's always been fed to sleep or needed motion apart from on a couple of occasions. I still don't mind this but the problem is he often feeds for the whole nap (2hrs). Sometimes I will nap with him but I could really do with getting some stuff done. I can't doit in front of the TV anymore like I used to when he was newborn haha.

Anyone else got experience of this?

Thanks x

I should add that he fights sleep in the pushchair and I want to avoid driving around for naps if I can.

Have you read the 'no cry sleep solution'? He needs to learn to sleep without nipple in mouth so the methods she describes (pantley pull off I think it's called) could work.

It will probably take time as he's so used to to but once he gets used to sleeping without boob you can then start working on the falling to sleep part. Does he have or use a comforter/blanket? You could feed him while holding it, then after a while reduce it to a cuddle whilst still holding it. He would also have it every time he wakes up.

How does he sleep at night?

Thanks for your reply. I have heard of that book, I'll look into it. He's better at night now, we've had three nights recently with only one wake up. I know he's got sleep associations but sometimes when I think about trying to break them I feel selfish and also think if I push self settling too hard at nap time he'll be overtired at bedtime.

If he's sleeping independently at night, the naps will come with time. Just takes a period of adjustment.
Good luck!

Dd is 26 months and I take the easy option of driving in the car Blush

If I feed to sleep on the sofa say, she’s like yours, feeding throughout the whole nap or wakes if I try and move away.
