I'd appreciate some help from someone who knows a bit more about the science of boobs than I do!

My baby is nearly 8 months old and started nursery at the beginning of this month. I had been pumping and freezing milk for a few weeks and now have a big stash. After a bit of trial and error we have settled on the amount she needs: 2 x 80ml to complement her two solid meals at nursery (I feed her in the morning, after nursery and before bed plus in the night if she wakes up but she usually sleeps through). I have found I can easily pump the 160ml she needs for the next day and as a result have not touched the freezer stash, plus occasionally I add to the freezer if I've misestimated and pumped too much.

Now, since there is quite frankly a ridiculous amount of milk in the freezer (and I could do with freeing up some space), could I just stop pumping and use the frozen milk for the foreseeable future? Will I be uncomfortable/engorged? Will I be able to restart pumping once I've depleted the stocks? I remember at the beginning I got very little out so I'm guessing my body might 'forget' how to work with the pump and have to 'relearn'? Will the stopping and starting cause havoc with my supply? In case it's relevant, at the moment I'm pumping during the morning and post-nursery feeds (baby on one breast, pump on the other).

Thanks in advance!

When you say pumping "in the morning" do you mean at work or as you do post nursery with baby on one boob and pump on the other or is it always pump one side baby on the other? I.e. 80mls per boob per session?
Why I'm asking - if I were not doing something with one boob potentially from last feed the night before to post nursery the day after I'd feel engorged.
Is reducing the amount you express and using e.g. half and half fresh/frozen an option? Wouldn't reduce your stash as quickly but it might make a dent. The advice I got was to taper down quantity rather than stopping cold turkey (I was just doing one session overnight and getting roughly the same as you in that session; wanted to stop because it was for a night feed and baby had started sleeping through. That didn't last...) The gradual reduction plan was with a view to avoiding engorgement. The midwife I spoke to about it said your body adjusts pretty quickly but I don't know if that was both ways (given it's supply and demand no reason to think it isn't.)
Just a thought based on a sample size of one...
I'm potentially going to have to start expressing again after a break so I'm pretty interested in knowing if it's going to work out too.

Yes the morning session is also with baby on one side and the pump on the other, no pumping at work. If I didn't pump I'd definitely swap sides so she took the pressure off as I'm pretty full in the morning. I will reduce the pumping gradually then just in case. Also I've realised that the frozen milk is in batches of 120-150 ml so I'll always need to pump a wee bit to make up the day's dose. Thanks!

Wikowiko- I've just had to express for the first time in a few months. Body seems to remember how to do it.
